So I started building my X-mas gifts. I,m a finish carpenter by trade and my wife likes me to build fun stuff for gifts and things around the house. My Father in law has a 55 chevy hardtop and I drew his name for a x-mas gift, I started by building the top out of white oak and black walnut in the shape of a 55 chevy grill I then wrapped he wood in aluminum and finished with automotive clear coat. I built the base out of an old 55 wheel and hub cap. I did have to use a few old Ford parts, A 47 Ford gave up its leaf springs that I used as legs. ( I just will not tell my father in law it has ford parts on it) IMG_1292.JPG IMG_1306.JPG IMG_1308.JPG IMG_1310.jpg

Slick. Are you going to paint the wheel to match his 55?

Well my pops has a 32 five window so I am thinking of doing a table of a 32 grill. I built this chimney cap, started a thread on it but it was deleated. I have also built a few IMG_1231.jpg IMG_1286.jpg coat hooks from wood and old wrenchs.

Started another table, this one will be the shape of a 32 Ford grill. I used Brazilian Cherry and Maple for the insert and will use Purple heart for the shell. I will use a Model A ford emblem routed into the wood instead of a 32(using an A emblem because its somewhat flat). I'm still designing the base in my head but it will probably be another wheel. So I built the base today for the 32 table. Check out the spring hangers on these bells, as I remember this rear end was from a 40 pickup with overload springs I would say the old girl had some major weight put to her on a regular basis. I dont feel to bad using them for an art project. IMG_1335.JPG IMG_1336.JPG IMG_1337.JPG IMG_1338.JPG
