Well, for reasons beyond my control, I couldn't make the Pileup this year. Denise (hotrodladycrusr) didn't go either. We had no HAMB today :( to keep us occupied so she and Big Olds came out to the shop and we went to work on her kitchen island. She can weld and grind with the best of 'em. We had a blast, a little picnic on the shop floor and the ladies (Denise,Chels,Veronica and Chelsea)took a short break and went for a cruise. All in all a really fun day. Here's a few pics.

  3. No pile-up for you!!! (in my best soup nazi voice!)

I did the same thing this year... hung around my garage and messed with the car... what the heck... it keeps me out of trouble unlike you folks!

Way to go Denise ! Nothing much better to do than work in the garage at anytime ! Good to see Denise can weld and grind with the rest of us ! Sounds like you ladies had a great time today in the garage , a picnic on the floor then off into the sunset with Big Olds !
It's just HELL when the HAMB is down !

  6. You have to like a girl that will "lean" into a grinder to get it done.

This is going to be a hell of a kitchen, what are you making? A range hood? A stainless counter top? A poultry deboning station? Oh no wait, maybe a walk in beer cooler, how about a smoking station to do barbeque in? I was wondering what happened to big Olds, oh well see you next year.

Yeah, and of course you were right cuz yoyur my smart friend.:D

Making a regular kitchen island that will have storage on one side and bar stools on the other side. The island will go right in the middle of my kitchen with the drawers facing the sink/stove/disherwasher area. The fridge is on the other side which makes it easy for a pal to grab a beer out of the fridge then sit down at the island and not get in my way while I'm cooking or baking.;)

Thanks, but I couldn't have done it without my pals Scott and Ed. I had the raw idea for the island and Scott helped me refine it. If I would have done the island my way it would have been too top heavy and someone would have gotten hurt....or so I've been told.:D

All of us made sparks over the weekend.

Cutting the angle iron ends 90 degrees
    [IMG]

Scott welding the angle iron frame
    [IMG]

Ed was in charge of cutting the legs
    [IMG]

    Legs welded on the frame
    [IMG]

    Whole frame and legs DA'd
    [IMG]

Then primed and painted with black hammertone
    [IMG]

It's 38.5 inches from floor to top of cabinet.

The top will be 1.5 inches thick for a total of 40 inches which is perfect for the stool height I have at home for this island.

I just want to take a quick minute to thank my good pals Scott and Ed for helping with this project. I'm really looking forward to the both of you sitting at the island drinking a couple of cold ones while I bake ya some cookies.:D

  30. I like the sound of this sitting down reaching for a beer part, but I'm sure my arms are about 1000 miles short. Good way to spend a day!!
