Pretty much all shows in the UK are camping events ! kinda dumb with our weather, but we do it anyway. Usually theres a motel fairly close by so those who are unable to camp (illness/elderly etc) can still come.
We camp every year at the Iola old Car Show & Swap Meet. They have a great camp ground with bathrooms and showers.
I love to take my teardrop camper to the shows. It gets more attention than the cars. Have to camp by myself, wife wont go with me. It must cost over a $100 a night & have a fancy bathroom if she goes.
Now that you mention it, I wonder why you don't see more truck sleepers converted to trailers? I don't know how much one would cost, but I would think one could be picked up for not too much. Only issue it that it would have the aerodynamics of a cinder block, but that can be dealt with.
im looking at plans for a teardrop right now, hopefully after the 49 gets finished ill start on that next.
Other issue would be the smells of being lived in by an old trucker.... Oh also, the Panel "el Presidente" fits two brit bikes and once unloaded fits a full size air mattress. Home away from home.
if you guys dig campin' and rods you should come and stay at my park when you come to indy. its abut 3 minute away from IRP.plus we are cheap. I figured since we were so close to IRP we would get more campers for the goodguys show, but as long as I have been here we have only 1 guy.I guess they enjoy paying to stay with all the goldchainers.
I'm kicking around ideas to make new ones from scratch. The Dodge Little Red Express resto guys pay a grand for a set when they can find them.
love those teardrop trailers. at 6'6" tall camping has it's limits. combine that with sleep apnea its not practical for me,i gotta have power for the pump! sure miss doing it. that 60' wagon rocks dude!
Frank, I picked this one up for $250 and closed in the p***thru and added a window in that place. By the time I was done with the repaint, new lights, locks, mattress, etc I figure about $500 total. Last year on a parts hunting trip out west I spent 11 nights in it. So figuring what motels cost it paid for itself in one trip. As far as mileage I get better with that than my 30' travel trailer. Averaged 10.5-11 mpg for 5500 mi with the load you see going through Wy. Mt and the Dakotas Firedome, yes I looked at ones that had been really used and abused, but this one was clean and decent inside with no smell. Just a little added info for those that don't know me. The cpe doesn't ride on this, it's driven and that's why no camping at shows. The car's to low to get a hitch on it. Anyone who knows me will confirm that it's driven
We sold the red&white shasta. Bought a project 20' Avion, then bought a 14' Penquin. Job got sketchy, so sold both of those. Now looking for another 14'-15' cheapy to mess with. More for the wife. She really enjoys working on them.
Looking for a Gruman2 TearDrop or an old Shasta, For brhind ny 48 Panel. Just Me and the Dawg, Ive fired the wife, Need to fing someplace to stor **** while I.m bein' a backdoor man.
Thanks, it is cool seeing your kids grow up with the hobby and get interested in it too. Camping at the car shows helped do that for my kids. My oldest son is now bugging me to let him get my OL 55 out of mothballs and get it back on the road !!
I got mine out once locally last year to try it out and see how it towed...went real nice and we had a ball. We'll be getting it out more this year!
We camp Pidgon Forge Tenn Smokey Mountains, and we love it They have 2 huge shows in the fall back to back weekends and it turns into week long of hot rods .What I like about it all your neihbors are rodders too, absolute blast.
When I was in the UK, nearly all their events were camping - had an el-cheapo pup tent and an air matress - all I needed! I really liked that - wish more runs here had camping at the show...
Here was my ol' (sold this one) Tear drop Switched wheels.... I build and sell these little guys.....and Yes I still Have one...built this one with my best buddy Ed, Ed pasted away July 22 and I will NEVER sell this one... I also have a 1968 Avon (Airstream) for sale...John
Over here in the U.K. camping at a rod run is a way of life just stick the tent ,sleeping bag etc in the rod n away you go for a few days........trouble is we have most nights under canvas with the heavens open n rain pouring down........still thats good ole England.
Yes I can get the old style windows, it's all about the money...the material/axels go UP and UP every month it seems....John 513-312-8799
