Always wondered what a Mk1 Cortina would look like as a Gasser - kinda 63 Falcon in styling so.....

I thought there was a similarity to the 356 Speedster. Inverted bathtub body and rear engine. Why not mix it up?

Here's a Renault Dauphine I did last year using a scaled down '54 Mercury sport coupe roof.

    Welp....can I join in ??
The poor attempt FoMoCo made when they tried to re-create the 2 seater T-bird. (YUK)
I wonder if... 57 style rear fins and tail lights and a little 'peak' to the headlights would have looked more "retro" T-Bird-ish ?
    Thx guyz

One of the high perf. power trains like the Mustang got wouldn't have hurt either.

"photoshop" is easier than you think, and you do not need expensive photo editing software to do it.

chopped, lowered frenched headlights and shaved hood/door handles, plus the background was uncluttered
    photoshop (1).JPG

this was already a lowered mild custom, all I did was chop it.
    photoshop (2).JPG

sectioned, frenched headlights and lowered. hood was already done. not sure if it had door handles. I need a better background for it, as I had to section the guy standing behind it too.:)
    photoshop (3).jpg

this one was a restored car, I really liked the color, so I made it a mild custom and posted it in the mild custom thread.

Some love for the trucks? Anyone want to do this better? Maybe do a solid dark gray primer paint.
Thought about a green and white 2 tone primer job also. 2.jpg

Those trucks had an orange/white option that didn't look half bad on them, but if it was mine I'd go gloss black with dark mint green side panels...

When the new 2-seat TBirds came out, several companies sold "retro-kits" to backdate the 'Bird. They all looked horrible because they were stick-ons which fought the new styling - odd angles everywhere. The original Thunderbird was a "square" design with soft edges. The new design was a a soft arc with a few hard lines.

My version squares up the rear fender line and uses wheel arches modeled after the original. Retro-flavor without going over the top. To do this in steel would require bodywork all round, of course.

Neat. The new 'bird was a bit of an odd thing. It somehow managed to look neither retro nor modern. Pick a lane!

And for James D, a Jag MkII 2-door coupe project started years ago. A hard chop, shorten wheelbase by 4 inches, tip the back end down a touch. Sorry, project was put on back burner, so no finished pix.

    H. J. Mulliner did something very similar to the first exercise at the time:
    upload_2025-9-2_22-10-49.jpeg

Park Ward likewise did a drophead:
    upload_2025-9-2_22-11-49.jpeg

These were factory-approved coachbuilt bodies. The S1 being of body-on-frame construction, bare chassis were also supplied to other coachbuilders at customers' request. I'll check my Bentley book. I do recall this being towards the end of a period of coachbuilders finding their feet with the new engine-forward ifs chassis pattern. Some of the first attempts were ungainly, to say the least.

I was going to suggest more lean in the windshield.... it looks like your unfinished project already did that.... I don't even see Bentley's around here much less work on one...

Yep. It's the "design" part that's harder than you think.

You made me think of all those guys that tried to make Ranchero style pickups out of 4 door cars.... or the "shorty" version of the Tri-five Chevys. It's one thing to do the metal work, it's another to make it look "right" when you're done....

It's true what they say, that it takes just as much work to make an ugly car as a beautiful one.

Tip: mirroring the rear wheel should give a better approximation of correct perspective.
