So, I've always been around cars - mostly restoration type stuff...car shows, judging, etc.

Over the last few years I've been reading the HAMB and learning a ton about Hot Rods and period customs and earning a great respect for this corner of the car world.

Along the way I've been trying to figure out what people are talking about half the time -

Here's a few that I've figured out, or already knew. How about a few more to add to my vocabulary?

FNG - F***ING New Guy (learned the hard way)

    RPU - Roadster Pick Up

    FED - Front Engine Dragster

    FE - Ford/Edsel Engine

    SW - Stewart Warner

    Longroof - Station Wagon

    3W/5W - 3 Window / 5 Window

    Poncho - Pontiac

    Bagged - Airbag suspension

    Here's a few I'm not sure about:

    ASC

AV8 (is this just a flathead?)

    Bomb (official definition?)

    FG

    Any others?

I consider "bomb" to mean a lowrider built out of a late 30's to early 50's car with every concieveable factory or period-aftermarket accessory.

I also consider AV8 to be exclusive to Model A's with an A frame and a flathead Ford V8 engine. I don't consider an A on a 32 frame or an A with a GM or Mopar engine to be an AV8.

My guess is FG stands for Fiberglass

Also, PO means Previosu Owner, so if someone attributes something to the PO, that's what they're talking about. That one got me for a long time.

  8. OP = Other person/Original poster ( there Gimpy, I fixed it for you).

ASC = American Stamping Company. They make aftermarket frame rails for chassis builds. Namely '32 Fords.

As much resistance as folks have to this notion, the popular usage of the term bomb comes from Latino car culture.

    Bomb, is short for bombástico.

In English that is bombastic, which means boastful, if maybe overdone.

It means exactly what Squablow says it does.

It might mean other things to those who have appropriated it, and now claim it as their own, but that is the origin.

Vivo en California, el lugar de origen de gran parte de la cultura del automóvil estadounidense. Vivo entre aquellos que han contribuido en gran medida de lo que te gusta a ella. Ellos quieren que sus contribuciones reconocidos y respetados.

In the context of a message board, OP means Original Poster. In the other words, the person who started the thread.

  11. I thought OP was "original poster".
    Beat me to it ^^^
This could end up being a long thread.

  12. That's what I thought a "bomb" was also..

  13. ..............I wasn't thinking anything distasteful:D. These type threads just usually devolve into different opinions about "What is this, and what is that"like the aforementioned "bombs" and "A-V-8s" but it's all good. I'll reserve judgement until I just completely disagree with someone on some point.:)

  14. Ah yes...Original poster/ Other person. I just considered the one who started the thread the"Other person" when in context of a third person conversation.

PO as in Joe beat it your PO is here. Which translates to Parole Officer for those on parole. Or, Joe beat it a PO is looking for you. Which translates to Police Officer for those not yet on parole. Or, does she PO. Which translates to does she Put Out for those horny guys out there. Or even I am PO’ed. Which translates to those who are still waiting for an overdue part from Drake’s.. Take your pick.

Back when I worked at a body shop, we used to refer to a DA as a District Attorney sander.
