How About The Most Important And Often Forgotten....The "Finished" Trunk

As the ***le states, the trunk is a vital part of our cars. They carry our necessities to keep us rolling but we often don't take the time to "finish" our trunks.

Back in the earlier days of customizing everyone finished their trunk...it was a must. When I go through my little books and early customizing magazines it blows me away some of the detail and time that goes into a truely complete custom or hot rod. The trunks are never neglected!

So let's see how this thread will bomb. Do we have people here that consider the trunk when they complete a car?

Let's see some pics of what a "Finished" trunk should look like!!!

A finished trunk for a custom is clean, simple, lined completely, even the underside of the decklid. Usually has a set of matching fluid cans, jack, lug wrench, emergency kit with flares(reflective and/or scratch-lit), spare tire with nice cover, sanded and varnished broomstick cut to length to hold up hood.

Thanks for that tidbit of info. That's what I'm talking about. I really think it's low on most peoples priority list but I also think they shouldn't be overlooked.

    Thanks again.

How about a pic or two?

some very nice work fellas. I would say that it depends on your intentions. If you intend to drive it extensively, my feeling is that practicality trumps customization. Case in point...ask Denise aka Hotrodladycruzr to see the inside of her trunk! She is on the road A LOT and uses it as intended. Even if it were all fancy, you couldn't see it.

IMO there's no reason that a finished trunk can not be practical. There's nothing worse than a nice car with a great interior and a pos looking trunk. To me that means it's not finished. I've put a couple of pics of mine here. I have hidden storage in front for tools, spare, chair, parts etc. Also I utilize the tool compartment that was stock on the Fords. The main area carries luggage, cooler, food etc. Two people have traveled for a month in the car without problem so I do think it's practical and being it's carpeted it has lasted over 70,000 mi of use. Your opinion may defer

Nice stuff guys. I just got my first cl***ic last year. I don't have a ****house of $ for drastic customizations, so I wanna do smaller, less expensive things on my own.
Now I need a little direction. What are the core materials involved? What type of wood? I've seen "pimp my ride" and they use that **** pressboard that'll fall to pieces if there is any moisture. What kind of hardware do I need to secure panels to eachother and to the car itself? Or, do they they kind of snug fit on their own?
I know, a million questions, sorry.

I like a well done trunk also, but "The most important"? I would vote that "Stance" is the most important. If I "finish" my trunk, I will have less room for road trip supplies, and tools and crates of fluids will just screw it up, anyway.

The reason I put "Most Important" is exactly that. It has to carry the tools, fluids and supplys to keep us on the road but I think all of that could be taken in to consideration when you finish it.

I am guilty of carrying way too much **** with me and I know when I finish my trunk I am going to have to be creative and limit what I "really" need.

What is the material? Are you planning on carpet?

    Off to a great start!

The green is actually some left over material from my temporary seat covers. I thought since I had some left over to put it to good use. I cut a thin sheet of wood to the template of the trunk and covered that with cheap vinyl from JoAnnes. All the exposed metal was sanded down and painted black.
