heres the 50 merc my family is building right now. Bought it as a shell, pretty solid but needs some tlc. The car had barely anything with it but as of right now we have a nice big pile of parts for the car. Jamco lowering kit, power brakes, SBC with a 700r4, original 50 dash, 51 column, 50 merc wheel, 51? Lincoln wheel, stainless garnish moldings, 49 parking lights, 49 grille, caddy tails, and ordered power steering kit and have to order a radiator still. We're replacing the front and rear floor pans and will have them done really soon, then we can finish the lowering kit and put her back on the ground to finish a lot of the other mock-up work. heres some progress pics!

car with original cut up stock suspension, but sat nice!

hope you guys like it, sorry for a crap load of pics, might start a build thread.

  15. Looks great! Any chance of talking you out of the Caddy tailights? IMO...the only thing that should have Caddy lights,is a '59 Caddy. Maybe one frenched in,but two looks bad to me. There's another guy on here with three! Red,amber, and clear. Don't have to tell you how bad it looks.
    Just my dumbass opinion...

we'll if we find another set of 50 original tails with decent bezels we'd consider removing the caddy tails...we've been having no luck finding 50 tails with nice bezels, but we'll pay more attention to them once we start doing bodywork which will be a while but thanks a lot!

  17. Those floors look great. Who did you get the panels from? I'm a BIG fan of stock grills too. That's why I changed mine back to the stock '49 grill, instead of the Winfield floating wing. It's more for a full Custom.
    Planning on chopping it?

we're making the floor pans outselves, just borrowed the bead roller off of a friend. We really just want the car to be almost completely stock outside but nose/deck it, thats it. The group of us building it have no experience chopping anything hahaha so it wont be chopped unless we get someone to do it later down the road. Wouldnt mind leave the roof bare metal for some shows if it gets chopped after its painted : )

  19. My tailights are in the stock bumperguards, but they need to be rechromed. I had been thinking about putting some stock 49's back on,but 2" lower. I don't know. It depends on how much the stock lights assemblies are.

I'll GIVE you a set of 50 bezels that are decent enough to chrome if it keeps you from leaving '59 Caddys in it.

Other than that it looks like a GREAT start.

  24. I had '59 caddy taillights on my car, I took them off because I wanted my to have a tighter 1955 - 1957 build feel to it:

This upgrade started just adding power steering, and has lead to a new motor transmission rear end, A/C replacing the floorboards etc. I decided to paint the chassis and thought I would sand blast it. Well that lead to taking the front end apart since I thought it would look crappy if I sand blasted it and painted it while it was together.

I want to replace everything but the king pins, any one got a vendor that sells items separately? MAC only has some items, Kantor has a $400. kit but it does not have everything.
