I'm home from college for a couple days, what to do...well, this was before a cleaning...

Love the push button drive. Despite the fact the tranny doesn't go into park. That's getting fixed. But I still love it anyway.

My goal, the finish line, with great thanks to photoshop.

Just needs the rear antennas, and the continental kit painted purple or white instead of pink. Maybe some fogging.

Went over to Flintstone's (Larry's) place today and picked up the coupe lower quarter panels and rear gravel guard. All in all a good day, about six hours round trip. Larry is a great guy and has a ton of 49-51 Merc NOS parts. He has collected and built some incredible Merc's over the years.

I dropped the 352 back onto the frame for the first time last night. Always nice to start reassembling stuff. On to exhaust, steering, and brake and fuel lines.

Still obsessing over taillights, bumper guards etc. Anyone in the Merc posse know where to find 51-52 packard trim? Already ran a WTB in classifieds. Thanks for your help gents, couldn't do this w/o you all.

Either Kanter or Max Merritt Auto may be able to help with that trim. I got trim for my dad's '49 Packard from Max Merritt.

  16. I'm still driving mine every chance I get.

I'm still piecing together the door parts. I still need to polish the vertical stainless pieces that is riveted to the u-channel.

...sold my 50 mercury 354 hemi powered coupe project, now on to finish other projects and start on the new "budget beater bomb" that i took on in part trade...a 51 mercury more door, my favorite has been 51's all along ...this one is kinda cool, 59,000 orig miles, totally stock flatty ,od, working orig. radio, all orig. upholstery, visor , skirts, lowered 3" in the rear, 57 cadillac hubcaps, lots of bomb style accessories. brought it home yesterday and now sorting out issues, and accessories i don't like and replacing them with what i like and have "in stock". this car has been in barn storage for many years and driven very little in the past 39 yrs. , the last oil change door sticker says 1972 and 55,824mi. , she runs like a top!
the 57 caddy caps are coming off and the 49 sombreros are going on after i do the "hamb sombrero tech " method of attaching the trim rings with epoxy. it needs a paint job, but i like the way it is ...as a survivor.

Beautiful survivor ^^^ Sounds like its in good hands! I found a 49 Merc parts car ,and a really bad 51 Monarch both 4 doors last weekend to add to the collection of Merc junk I have ...this should give me enough stuff to build a coupe from, I am pretty excited but cant get them home till the spring, I will add some pics later when I am home.

got the paperwork for a bonded title turned in for the '55 today so will be hitting it hard thru the holidays , preoil the engine , change fluids etc , get it running then start on front suspension. Will try to get interior to upholstery shop too. With any luck i might have it moving under its own power by Christmas

  26. Nice, I keep posting driving pics of mine hoping that will inspire those in build or paint mode.

    Finishing up my wing/door glass:

  27. Did you ever decide what hubcaps you want to run yet John?

  28. I'm thinking about adding a set of spider inner trim rings like this:

  29. Man:(. Can't say I am not a little disappointed to hear that. I know you have to do what makes you happy but for me you have done so much to this car that is seems like not putting a full period cap on would be like a beautiful woman getting all dressed up to go out and then wearing rubber boots.
