I see your from Denver, I was wondering if "DAVE" is in Denver or if he is the one I am thinking about in Colorado Springs. I can't remember the name of the shop, but if it is him he does the most beautiful chops I have ever seen

  2. Ace, I bought a GM split bench and matching rear a couple of weeks ago, I should snap a pic. It's close to what I wanted.

Thanks, that would be outstanding cause I really want the 88 in the Merc. My email address: gw65@gwtc.net and if anyone has any info I sure would appreciate it.

Found it! Here are the scans. From Rod Builder & Customizer, January 1959.

Looks like the steering was the biggest problem. They cut, dropped and welded the driver's side; heated and bent down the idler arm on the passenger side. Pretty typical of the day.

It was also common to heat and bend down both sides an inch or so maximum, or to build a new center section with the drop built in.

Good luck... And keep us posted on how you choose to do your swap. :)

PS: If you have trouble seeing the photos I can send you (or anybody else who'd like 'em) full-size scans of the pages by email. You can also access them in large format by clicking on the thumbnail, then clicking on the image itself. This will open a second, larger image with a "blow-up" button that makes it really big and really easy to read. Hope this helps.

Been plugging away at mine. Haven't posted in a couple of monthes. Basically its the metalwork thats taking a dog's age. I have the chop completed and 90% of the finish welding done. I'll snap pics when the body is done-done.

  9. Woostah in the hizzie. I'm going to have a grill sale before the end of the year.

  10. Merc it still at sandblasting. It should be back soon and I can get some pictures in bare metal.

I'm trying to decide what to do the the taillights. With the 49 & 50 it seems more limited.

    (1) French and lower the stock taillights.

(2)No taillights and put them in the bumper (I've been told that if you drive it much this idea is not the safest, especially if it sits very low).

    (3) 59 Cadillac lenses frenched in.

Right now I'm leaning toward option one, unless Dave comes up with a super cool idea.

I'm also trying to decide about the location of an antenna(s).

For all you crazy Merc guys if you need any good solid Merc sheetmetal, trim, or any Merc spacific parts call Mr. Merc in Nebraska {308-946-2564) he is reasonable and HONEST and knows more about a Mercury than anybody I have met.

  19. Ace don't do '59 Caddy's frenched in, my car had them and it looked lame, one of the 4 reasons I decided to redo my exterior:

  20. Right now I'm leaning toward frenching in the stock taillights. I'm going to look for some kustoms with the Lincoln taillights. Stock they are pretty plain.

  21. John,
Did you ever get the fiberglass skirts? What do you think of them?

  22. I got a set and they are fine just thicker. I also have a set of originals and like them alot better. For the price the glass ones do work, espesially if you flush them.

  23. I got the longer skirts from Winfield, they are over with my body guy. They don't mount like stock so when the time comes we'll discuss which ones we will use.

I would have loved to have done flush skirts but I decided to stay stock style.

  24. I have a couple leads on some original 51's. Hopefully I can get a good set that is not to expensive.

  25. I was looking for a clean firewall but also didn't want floor pedals.
Had to be hanging, so set up a 90 degree system behind the firewall.
Master exits out the left side where a reserve tank will sit for topping up.
Hood and fenders will be front hinged so no problem with hood hinges etc.

Don't french the tail lights in just lower them. Use the lower set of original holes to make new holes. Looks much better that way.

  27. Does anyone know what this side trim is off of?

The side trim is off a 53 Buick.

  29. Here's a two year old pic of my 65 Cyclone and a more recent one from the shop. The NC inspection sticker was from 12/87 and 20 years later - 12-07- I took here down the road for the first time with a fresh motor and brakes, dual exhaust. I'm coming down to the paint selection. It was originally Wimbeldon white but my dad had it repainted through the years a brighter white. I'm going with the white I remember on the car while I drove it to High School in the 80s. Earl Sheib white it is!
