i need to install some bumpstops on my car, the frame has been cut, new crossmembers, bags etc etc. I need the bumpstops to hit before the bags bottom out [ sleeve F9000's ] .

I was looking at a few on summit, and i saw these :

    http://store.summitracing.com/partd...art=ENS-9-9137G&N=700+-78437+115&autoview=sku

i thought i could drill a hole and weld in some all thread, but then i would have the weld keeping the bumpstop from sitting flat.

Or i could use self tapping screws to hold em, but would that be strong enough ?

    Any ideas ?

try a search for polyurethane bump stops (energysuspension.com is one). I found some at a local Pep Boys auto parts store. They have a threaded mounting post so that you can install and adjust without welding (usually). Have fun.

    Thanks for the link.

Do you mean just tap a hole in the frame ?

The t-nuts that you can buy in the hardware section of lowes/homedepot work well. They have a nice flange that you can weld to the frame. Just drill a hole, and weld them in.

I got some frome a local parts store that were on one of those "HELP" racks(they have stuff like G.M. door hinge repair kits, window cranks,etc.). Sorry no pic's. Their a 2in. cone of rubber mounted on a 5/16 threaded stud. Cost around $12.00. They had a longer one that was about 3 1/2 in long also.

I like the polyurethane pancake stops that have a 5/8 n/c bolt coming out the back of it.

they also make a taller one that is about the size of an egg cut in half.

so once you get your bump stops, I always got mine from Fatmans but I am sure you can get em through speedway.

get a tap conversion chart and mark out your centerline, punch it, drill it to the correct size, tap it (use tapping oil and go slow!) then you can just screw you bumpstops in to the frame...

I have done a lot of cars this way and have never had 1 issue out of it...

You could also make a mount on the side of the frame rail to mount the bumpstop. Most parts places have bumpstops in stock and they come in different sizes.

My Plym has a Chevelle/Cutlas subframe. Some of the bump stops for the A arms are press in, can't remember if upper or lower. Just drill the right size hole & figire out how to pop em in, if that shape works for you.

Are these push in types strong (good?) enough for axle to frame applications or are they only used on A Arms? I can't seem to find anything on energy suspensions website. This style would be a preferred application if it works. thanks

  12. Right HERE on the HAMB yopu can get exactly what ya' need on the cheap.

Go to the for sale section (can you imagine that!!) and do a search for what you want, like BUMP STOPS and that will take you to:

    How 'bout that ****!!!!!!

Many months ago I bought enough of these to do 10 cars. Cheap, EZ to install, delivery was almost immediate.

I can't imagine another bump stop that would work any better than these. Drill and tap a hole in the frame, loc-***e the threads, done.

Easy to drill holes in frame to mount stock ones from donor car or wrecking yard.
I usually cut the rubber the be shorter. Leave about 1/2 inch more or less as needed.

I just put a couple on my 37 coupe--it would hit hard in the back on large bumps with the stock stops. I used some stops from a late 90's g.m truck/mini van. They are colapsable:they're round ,and hollow in the middle--I just trimmed em for the height I needed.Cost like $15.00 each and really helped .

I'm the guy selling bump stops and you guys should buy them from me because it's good for America. Trust me I won't save the money I'm sure to spend it almost as soon as I get it just to keep the economy moving.
