Is the '56 Meteor the blue/white one or the red/white one? The old custom is really nice, tasteful.

It was built in the late 50's
early 60's...there was a story about it in old autos a few years back...as I recall it was almost new when the mods began...I thought it would bring alot more than it did.Cool car wish it was mine:rolleyes:

Probably not. Likely a poor hot rodder from the early days that started working and enjoyed what he was doing and became prosperous along the way. Managed to pick this or that up along the way and after the 50 years (half century) wound up with what he had at auction. Was probably so busy working he forgot how much fun you have hot rodding in the simple way. My guess is he never enjoyed those cars very much because he was too busy working. Just my two cents.

We should all be so lucky. I think he was just thinning the herd.

Then that is a lucky man to be able to follow his dream. Lesson to all of us here--we should drive what we build and use what we have. Cars were meant to be driven and pedals meant to be pushed. Thanks for update.

    Nice cars!
    I am a ****er for a '41 Mercury.
I really like the grill treatment.

If that was an American Olds Starfire I'd say it was a '62, not a '63.
Did they sell the '62 body through '63 in Canada?

We've got a few guys like that here in Phoenix. One of my Dad's clients has a house worth about 20 million os so and a just at his house keeps a collection of some of the rarest o/t German and Italian cl***ics. Probably a dozen or so cars. Drives 'em as much as poosible. He also has two airplane hangers, one full of thirty or more o/t cl***ics and the other with his planes. I don't care if I take a beating for it, those old Ferarri's are sweeeeet. I like the collection that started this thread much more, but if it was mine you might find an Itailian v-12 hiding in the back...

lucky enough to be at the age that buying low was easy. Its called speculating and is the reason the cost of everything has gone up so high. Also the reason most manufacturing has left both the U.S. AND Canada as the working cl*** need more money to get by so the speculators look for cheaper labour to produce our consumables. His real estate work is costing us all. Good on him.

  21. You need to kick around here more. Go look at past Jalopy Journal entries from Ryan under the heading "inspiration". Also look at many of metalshapes threads and posts. Plenty of p***ion for Euro hotrods, thats where a lot of our forefathers got thier ideas.

By looking at the above pics I can say someone worked hard to build such a nice collection.

Buying stuff in the old days might have been cheaper, but you made a hell of a lot less. Speculating is smart business. It is what Wall Street is all about. Its called Investing. He did not acquire all that by "Luck".It took hard work, long hours, taking risks, doing without at times of uncertainty, buying smart.I fault no man on having more than I because I know he probably wanted it more.
The reason manufacturing has left North America is taxes.Corporations do not pay them,we do in the end product. So if there were no corporate taxes, goods would be a lot cheaper and businesses would be coming back quickly.
If you want to die with a barn full of old valuable cars, invest (speculate) in them. And don't be bitter if someone is jealous of your possessions.
