1952-59 Ford how can you date a flathead v8 ???

    i have some questions im trying to date a couple flatheads engines i just baught both of them have 8ba heads but as i counted one apears to have 23 bolts in the heads and the other one have i count 24 bolts in the head ??? whats the differnce here and 1 block number at the bell housing is E M2093 and the other one looks like 30E4 any body have have any clues for me to be able to date these two engines ???

    All later Flatheads had 24 bolts. From 41 or so on, don't know exactly what year. The earlier flatheads had 21 bolts. Either you miscounted the one that you said had 23 or its not a Ford flathead.

    49-53 flatheads had the drop in distributor, the earlier ones had the distributor mounted on the front cover.

    All 49-53's were essentially the same, except the Merc ones had 255 inches rather than 239.

    Can't help you on the numbers.

    If im not confused, early P***enger '49 8ba flatheads came with wide belts.

    what are the head casting #s? Have you checked with the folks on FordBarn? Some of them know those flatties in & out and might be able to ***ist using those #s you provided.

    Ford changed from 21 to 24 bolts in early to mid 38. Paul Selfe.
