the reason the Bussa's dont crack 200 on the flats is traction, wheel spin over 150 on a bike has to be un-nerving. A turbo on a 2000 R1 or any other liter bike will get ya close if not all the way to 200. Plenty of streight hiway in New Mexico.

The first thing that anyone contemplating running at Bonneville needs to do is invest the money in a current rule book.

The tech guys are famous for not p***ing cars at the first inspection and if the car isn't built to the letter of the safety rules it isn't going to get to run.

The fun body would be a Stude lowboy, the practical would probably be a third generation camaro or Firebird.

The real fun would be to run something off the wall and go after a record that you had a chance at.

If somone wants to sponsor me with $20k, I'll get it done!

BTW - That 80+ mph mower was f'n awesome! My buddy built one from s**** mowers that does over 35 mph (gps tested) with no crazy performance upgrades.

    I paid $6500 for my 2002 Hayabusa
Extended swing arm, alum wheels, bigger rear sproket, new triple clamp to lower the front end, dog bones to lower the rear, power commander, new Yosh cams, tuning, hot rodz flat and powder coat...and 100 hp shot of nitrous - $5500
109 hp and 93 ft lbs of tq w/o the bottle at the rear wheel.

You can crush 200 mph for less then 20 k. Just remember to find a nice open stretch of highway. i recommend I 95 just north of Daytona Beach, Fl and a helmet.

    Good luck

There was a guy, John Noonan, a few years ago that ran a turbo Busa at the salt flats and ran 259.393 mph. Holds the record for the fastest production bike. It had close to 500 hp...sick.

I have had my square as hell 57 f-100 (fridge) a bit over a hundred with original gearing and a slightly hopped up original 223 6 cyl at mayyybe 140 hp. You would think with a slightly more ayrodynamic shape and some more horsepower 200 mph should be fairly do-able

Modern sportbikes produce lots of wheelspin at highspeeds. Even on asphalt. Racebikes, like the AMA superbikes will spin their rear wheels 15+mph or so faster than they are really going on the top end. It was always a pain in the *** trying to explain to some friends with sportbikes that weren't going as fast as the speedo told them they were a few years ago. There is also clutch slippage and stuff that comes into play too. Sportbike speedos especially a few years ago were notorious for having highly inaccurate readings. Things may have improved in the last couple of years though.

"I plan on making it to the 200 mph club in the next 10 yrs.
I'm a driver looking for a car in the meantime. PM me if you're a team in need of a pilot."

Usually works the other way. YOU pay for the build, do it yourself, drive it yourself. Where is the satisfaction in not doing it the tradtional way?

First time I saw it at the top end of a dragstrip it blew my mind. Guy was trying to play catchup, hanging the front wheel just a hair and still spinning the rear. That's a lot of power for what? 2" wide contact patch on a street tire? Ugh.

  13. Orange sunshine, 2 bucks for a 4 way hit and I got going well over 200 mph.

Safely??? Well that's relative I guess.

  14. It amazes me how many backwoods goobers around here claim their towtrucks will get close to 200! When I hear this story I realize our business dealings will be getting short in a hurry.

We are trying to crack 200 mph on a budget. That being said we really dont know what the budget is gonna be. It takes what it takes. I think the final bill will be less than 20 grand. We are working on a front wheel drive bellytank lakester. Heres an "under construction" photo

We are under no illusion that this is gonna be easy. We are pretty sure we'll have to visit the salt 5 or 6 times to get there.

Here's a link to the whole build

Thanks. I now have almost $10,000 in my car. I ran out of traction at 140MPH. Some elbow grease (and maybe $500) for rear suspension work could get me fairly close to 200 (maybe 175ish), but I've moved on to other things.
But don't let these guys piss all over your dream. Get that Caddy on the salt, if that's what you want - if I can do it, anyone can!

That was some amazing shtuff, wasn't it?
    4 way?
You mean those were supposed to be split up!!?

  19. I think it was a way to sell 'em. I never split one I mean 2 bucks was a lot of money back then but hell space exploration was never cheap.:D

Hey Doc did you ever make it up to Leary's(SP?) place in Berzerkly back in the day???

Truth is I've been much over about a buck 'n' a half and never past 130 or so on the 1320. All my salt time has been turning wrenches. But you bet a dollar to a donut that anything fast I've ever owned has been ultra low budget.

The more I read the original post, the more I have to wonder if he wasn't talking more about saving money by spending it once (rather than having to redo cheaped out ****)?

I went 200 in the quarter on my turbo nitrous funny bike for 13K all in. Most exciting seven seconds I ever spent!
