here is a poker run for the First Frost Run put on by the local club here, along with the directions for the run there is a kinda trivia hunt where you look for signs and hidden things to fill out the blanks on the form, the pot is split between the two contests, it is a lot of fun

  2. We have two car club sponsored Friday evening poker runs a month here - April through October. Short jaunts around town with stops are at Sonic Drive Ins and Advantage Auro Parts stores. They put up the prize money and the entry fee, $5 per hand, goes to charity. Typically get 30-40 participants. More when the run coincides with a car show.

This past summer one of the motorcycle clubs had a run through the country to raise money for a family with a couple of sick kids. They invited the car guys but only three of us participated. Had a good time. But skipped the post run dance at one of the clubs. Any bar with a metal detector at the door is way too extreem for me.

You're right. I stand spanked.
As event director, why not a hamb run. Half to Ryan half to the winner.

  5. To elaborate a little on what dug said. The Swindler's run is set up so everyone travels together to the 6 stops. The cards are rolled up in clear 35mm film tubes then placed in a bucket with a lid, that has a hole cut in it. The cards are always with the organizers. At each stop the bucket is pulled out of the trunk of the car, everyone draws a card and it is recorded on a master list. Prizes are given for either low or high card at each stop. At the last destination the person with the best hand gets the cash pot. Then we enjoy pizza and beer! No volunteers sitting by the side of the road missing the poker run.

I've put together 2 poker runs for our club, and they can be a lot of fun and a lot of work. My biggest problem was finding stops that got the cars off the road for the safety of the participants and the workers at the stop. And finding a route that had the fewest road hazzards and no surprise construction zones. Of course to complicate things a little more I had to make all the trophies too. Got tired.

Suggested a poker run to my Stude Club Chapter for an upcoming Zone Meet event and most didn't know what one was.
A fellow with experience recruited the workers and set it all up, even the workers were eligible. I secured lots of nice participation prizes and 2 expensive Grand Prizes.
Had to beg attendees to try it out - those who went loved it - especially when I awarded the biggies. The rest of them wished they had gone!
    Better luck next time suckers.

You know that's not a bad idea.....maybe at the HAMB drags? Instead of the usual cruise they could have a Poker Run.

Let me know if I can help out. I don't think I'm capable of organizing the whole event (can't even balance my check-book) lol. But I'd really like to be a part of this event if it gets ok'ed.

I was on two poker runs this year, and I must say they are a blast! It's nice to see cars on the road once in a while instead of just in a parking lot. There is always a little show afterwards, so it tends to keep most people happy. I'm already looking forward to next years rod run season.

I hope guys will give it a chance. It's kind of like invading a small town with hot rods. The natives will never know what hit em......

    Great idea!
    We did them years ago!
Now after driving 5 to 15 hours to get to the show , we just want to relax and
    have a few beers!
It is a nice way to see the back roads and country side!

We have had some of them up here. We would leave Reno and go through the mountains up to Lake Tahoe and down through Carson City and up to Old Virginia City. Stopping at cool places for photo scene shoots with all the different cars. Always had a great time and like others have said "It sure beats sitting in the sun in a parking lot."

Well most people don't want to leave the show and shine to go on a run where 50% of the people get lost and then get mad. most shows in our area have gone to a poker walk around the show area, using the venders who like the idea of getting all of the people in their booths.

We have one coming up in October. Run by the vo-tech college, and it is alot of fun seeing the various rods and classics. We usually keep it around 75-100 miles before heading back to the college for the prizes. Came in second with 4 of a kind and won $200 last year.

The Indy Hi-Winders used to do a poker run every Labor Day, went for years. Ended up at a good place to eat and drink down some cold ones, have some games for everybody, over the years the car count was down and people lost intrest and then no more poker runs, I miss them.

I do one every year, The Kingsman 500 show in Orting Wash. , a 35 to45 mile 6 stop run.
Most times it starts some where in Tacoma and ends in Downtown Orting,it's a great run and is held on Fathers Day week end. I've never had a winning hand, but always a great time.
