How did old schoolers lower Model A rear?

    That's exactly what the builder of a Model A ch***is that I have did back in the day --- heat the ends of the main and 1st leaf 2 - 3 inches from the end. Saw a "survivor" Model A rod in a recent rod magazine article that had this done to both the front and rear springs when built in about 1950.

    I plan on calling super slide, they make exactly what your after and it will take no modifacations to install. Bolt in and go! Will ride and last great!

    you can use a stock model a spring with reversed eyes and take the small leaves off of the top and put them underneath to use the same u bolts and that will lower it and if it comes down to it cut you frame 4 inches forward of the rear crossmember and line the top of the front half up with the bottom of the back and plate it!
     
  4. I really like heated and bent springs, I am no expert but seems most cars where done that way and theres a TON still driving around. I watched the rear spring on a friends A bone when we where driving and it did not even think about moving, there is barely enough weight on the spring to compress it never mind break it...

    I bought new main leafs front/rear with reversed eyes. didn't want to heat bend 80 year + old springs.
     

  6. about 2 hours
    a small bottle jack press
    2 small sections of rail road
    and a piece of round stock and i could reverse the eyes on 90% of model a springs
    i leadned that in the tech section here
