Technical How did they shorten Banjo Ford Axles?

    Guys

    Back in the days when they still used the Banjo Ford rearend in front engine dragsters, how did they shorten the axles up?

    Not wanting to debate the use of the rearend, more of how they managed to cut them down.

    Did they re-grind the taper, cut a key-way and re-thread it?

    Or drill out the spider gear, shorten the axle and weld it up?

    Or was there someone building new axles?

    This was discussed a while ago, should show up in search..IMO best would be to shorten and re due taper and threads..I am sure they were shortened by every means concivable and welded, breakage [or not] varied..
