I've been to every Roundup since #2 and have always had mixed feelings about its growth. Growing can take away from the home grown feel that makes the Roundup so charming and fun. Last year was really tough in the park because everyoen waspacked so tight. I honestly thought that was "it" - it had grown too big and would never be the same as the early years.

This year was a blast! I was skeptical of the move to the bigger venue, but amazed (and grateful) that the Kontinentals pulled it off so flawlessly with zero lead time. The vendor loop in the middle was great and a nice break from the sun, too. Parking was easy and there was plenty of room to set up an EZ Up by your car and move around looking at the other rides.

The Roundup has grown because it's the best show in the Southwest and one of the tops in the country. As long as the restrictions and standards for what gets into the show remains in tact, I'm all for keeping it at the Expo Center. I'll always be able to say, "I remember when it was 150 cars in that grassy little park down by the river".

The chaos on Congress is just as fun as the show IMO. Sure, parking sucks, but who cares? It is still one of the coolest things to experience in all of hot rodding. My kids were 6 years old when we attended out first Roundup and at 11 (twins) they still are in total awe of the Congress scene.

A+ to the new venue this year and I'm all for moving it there permanently as long as they keep the spirit Kustom and Kool. The more the merrier!

I missed the show this year, but I do remember thinking last year that the park was getting a little small for the LSRU. In '06, spectator parking at the show was really tight if you didn't pay to park in the field like I'd done the previous couple years. From most comments here for '07, sounds like this new venue may be just the thing needed to keep the show going.

  6. All I know is that this year rocked the socks off. The Expo is the place to be when all the Vintage Tin hits the asphalt. I am always excited to see all the jalopies, gassers, taildraggers, air-baggers, leadsleds, dueces, bobbers, cafe-racers, choppers, rats & whatthahells (except for the Benz) at this AWESOME event. Damn, I can't forget them longroofs, all of these wheeled wonders are exactly why this thing continues to grow. We can't get enuff of 'em! Plain& Simple. I really dig the impromptu location & you guys pulled it off w/flying colors. I would much rather go to the Expo for as much Ol' tin you can stuff in there, than the HeatWave.
My only regret was not making the meet-n-greet/ Denise & the gang, dangit. Plus, not making it to SoCo Fri., or Sat. nite. Both evenings were screwed before they started, hey there's next year, right? Don't forget the drags. I'm shootin' for that one, as well.
Also, hopefully making it to the Nostalgia Drags at Little River(Temple Academy) on May 12th. Hope to see some the local guys there & try the ol' truck out, ha.

I liked it better at the Expo center this year. Was alot easier to check out all of the cars. Was also alot easier to get in and out . The park was cool but way to crowded. Once you were in with your car you were stuck until everyone else decided to leave. I would like to see this show get bigger. There are constantly more and more people coming to this show. I met a guy who flew in all the way from Australia for the show. Not to mention there are more and more people getting in to the car lifestyle. I think the move to the expo center would benifit everyone. Keep it at the expo center.

Kind of a long story, but basically I just had too much going on this year to get away. :(

Just a thought. I've been going to HeatWave since 93. It was at Emma Long Park before it moved to the expo center. Emma long might be an option as it has alot more room but is still a pretty nice park, right on the river, even has a boat ramp, and a concession stand not to mention it's kinda up in the hills and the last part of the drive used to be pretty nice views. It would provide the best of both venues. I was at the first Round-up and wish there was a cool old football field with a really big park next to it. :)

  13. Although I voted to keep the show at the expo, in hindsight I can see that it could get so large,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I'd also like to thank everyone behind the scenes who pulled this off seemlessly and made it look effortless! Great job!!

    See you next year,,,,,,,,,,LEE

Day of the Drags is in the Fall. We don't have a date set yet, but we'll post details when we have them.

The May 12 drags are the Hill Country Street Rods Show and Go. They've been doing races out there for several years longer than we have. It's where we go the idea for the Day of the Drags. We wanted two days a year with all the old stuff on the track instead of just their one. (pre HAMB Drags)

Here's a thread I started on the main board. I'm trying to get more details from the Hill Country guys, or the track. I'll post when I have details.

Maybe you can help steer the thread back to racing. Somebody has clowns on the brain.:D

  16. Yes - it will be in the fall - sometime in October, most likely.
we are working on dates now - when we have details, they will be posted up at

    http://www.dayofthedrags.com/

That will be the home of all info for the show.
we will of course make an announcement on the hamb, so you won't miss it.

Working on dates for next years Lonestar Roundup too - we will let everyone know here soon.

    thanks

I am posting this response late I know but I vote for the Expo Center... I liked the volume of cars there and I think at a venue like that you'll also be able to pack more vendors in which is also groovy

beyond that I have a few other comments... should any one want my other 2cents feel free to ask...
