find a yellow 1930 license plate for my Ford Coupe that i could run and be okay to register the plate?

how much do the good ones run?

or can you run old plates that the numbers are no good, but then request a personalized plate from the DMV and just switch the new plates from the DMV with the old ones i want to use i get at a swap meet?

what makes an older plate no good and why?

    anyone... Beuller?

I dont know about Cali but in Tennessee you can buy any old plate as long as its newer than the year of your car, take it too the DMV, and they will reissue the number on the antique plate and register it. I know Cali is alot more picky with other stuff but hey its worth a try. Now finding a plate could prove to be the hard part. Ive been looking for about a year for an appropriate plate for my rod.

in new jersey we do the personal plate with the old plate number and just run the old plate.
if it is legal or not who knows but non of the people i know had had any problems.

  6. Hey cab, do a search here and see what comes up. You Cali guys have different sized hoops to jump through than the rest of the nation. The process for Cal. has been described here many times.

I'm sure everywhere is different. In Kansas you can run an old tag but it must be a Kansas tag the same year as the car, at least that's what they tell me at the courthouse. You also get to pay the vanity tag fee.

  8. Here in NY, using an orig plate is actually cheaper than a new plate...

A set that nice here would set you back a hundred or two. I have seen old repainted single from 30-31 going for $75
We can register as a cl***ic (different than antique) for 15 bucks extra and run plates the year of the car or vanity plates.
