So the other day i came across some good luck finally. One of the guys I work with told me that his dad had an old box of car parts in his garage. To make a long story short it ended up being 54' Chevy parts! And at the bottom of the box there was some really dirty grill teeth. There was 7 of them! I took them home and after an afternoon with some Mothers and a shop rag, I have a perfect set of teeth! My question is, how do I add them to my 54's grill? My plan is to put one between each current tooth. The teeth have threads in the center of them. Do I drill the center bar? How do you guys do it? I've never done this, so if you guys can help me out i'd really appreciate it! thanks in advance!
Seems like you figured it out all by yo self, Come down to Cl***ic Malt Shop fri nite and we'll find a dentist if you need one.
Hey Poorboy, first thing you should do is make sure seven teeth is all you want to add. You don't want to go putting holes in your bar and then decide to add more later. When I added my teeth to the '53 I measured them all out and used a punch, then drilled out the hole just a little smaller than the bolt on the back of the teeth. I then used a very large punch to "round off" the edges. I will post a couple ****py shots of my grille even though they are '53 teeth. Now if I could just afford to get them replated.
One other thing, check to see which teeth you have. In '54 the two outside teeth are smaller than the inside ones. Don't know if you want to mix and match the two sizes. In most of the pics I have it looks like guys stuck to one size or the other. You can look here http://photo.starblvd.net/kustomkruizer?st=album&pg=1&ro=3&co=3 and see what you think. It's just a bunch of '53 and '54's that I put on a page, but you might get some ideas. Most of the cars are from the HAMB. And here is one of a Merc with a '54 grille to get the juices flowing.
Go to the nightprowlers website, It shows the different sizes and where they go. I'll take the center one, you wont be needing it. http://www.thenightprowlers.com/ You are either going to need one more or have 3 to spare.
