Hmm, red 32, chebbie, lake headers...

How about 101 Red 32's Annual

If you want your car in a magazine, go to California. Cars don't count east of Bakersfield... You'll have to get rid of the pin stripe though...

  5. The guy who painted my shoebox(fordole500)must have liked attention, cause it's been non stop sinse I bought it.I go to all the local shows, and don't worry about magazines. If the right guy likes it,they will come to you.You don't really appreciate it if YOU make it happen. You'll always like it more if they approach you first.I never take the credit for my car,i'm just proud to own such bitchin ride.I credit Todd Zimmerman, the builder.Besides, there are so many guys with camaras out there, you never know when it will just show up in a magazine.

Drive it to California. Thats all we did. Got in 5 magazines just in one trip to Paso Robles. But it helps to have a cool car too.

This is probably just like trying to find a woman. As soon as you stop caring if it happens, you'll get in a magazine.

I heard if you kiss Kirk on the mouth, he'll put your car in a magazine.

    Might be worth a try?!

It's way easier than that- compliment his hair- then he's all yours ;)
Also take his advice and DO NOT bug the guy with a camera- yes, he might take your pictuure after you beg- but either he really took a picture of the guy next to the car stuffing his face or will immediately delete the picture once he gets back home.

I don't like my hair. It keeps leaving me.

Also, just because the picture gets taken doesn't mean it will end up in print. JimA is right, annoying people's photos get deleted. Getting your photo in print is like winning the lottery. There are 5000 cars at a event, only so much room on the camera, and then only so much room in the magazine. The Gazette, for obvious reasons, has the most event coverage photos of any other magazine, about 200 per event on average. Out of that 200, only about 150 are cars. So just by sheer numbers alone your chances are slim.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Don't do it for the photos and awards. If you get one - cool. If not - cool. Hot rod because you have fun doing it.

  13. i would loan you one, but i divorced mine...

the roadster that started this thread, well, it looks like every other chopped windshield, radial tire raked, lake piped with caps and caddy aircleanered-350 nicely restored duece out there. What is special about it?

not that i am a magazine guy by any stretch of the imagination, but that is the one thing that car serioulsy lacks is imagination.

when i walk through a car show, it would represent the nice 80%: a fleeting glance at best.

As an amatuer photographic monkey (i lack the eye and feel to be great) i would want a car that stands apart from everything else, and those are the cars that get the centerfold.

Anyways you should try contacting Club International, they feature cars too.

    good luck.

  14. If you want it to grace the pages of a magazine?!
Go to the shows posted on the H.A.M.B. calendar.
Most of the photographers shoot cars that fit their magazine style and will let you know if they want more info from you.
But that doesn't mean it'll get published.
That is usually left up to whom ever is running the magazine.
So just drive it! Enjoy it! and if I see it I might give it the once over.
My first question is going to be: Did you do the work on this ride?!?

  15. They Always Show A Car That Had Had A Accident On The Way To A Event And Limped In.....
    Hmmm?????
Maybe Not What You Are Looking For Please Disregard This Option!~

I think that statement could be applied to a lot of things in life.

I've never personally had my car in a magazine, but almost all the people I know that have either:

    A) Took their car to as many big events as possible. Once at an event, the car needs to be parked where it will be seen... the end of an aisle, or an area with a lot of foot traffic. Parallel parking rather than "parking lot" seems to help. Then make sure you stay around your car alot... you can walk away if you have buddies parked next to you... but make sure they have your cell phone # on speed dial. Magazine people don't have time to stand around waiting for you to finish your corn dog.

    or

    B) Known a magazine person... and said magazine person knew very well about the car before it saw the light of day.

Print out about 200 copies. Go to Borders and insert in all the mags while the clerks have their back's turned.

A lil' elbow grease....It'd either be a tight fit, or it'd have to be a big magazine!!! =0)

After reading all this, I've decided to publish a magazine. We'll call it "My Hot Rod". We'll have Special Sections...for red '32 Fords, for anything else red, for '32 Fords in general (all models), for roadsters, for '33/'34 Fords, for square-bodied cars of any model, for orphans (coops only), for other makes (any color) and for REAL hot rods (flat blak only).

Anther section would include trailered cars (photos of truk and trailer, or enclosed box, optional) and...within that section, we'll feature bug-laden, dirty windshield driven cars to offset the bling and polish on the others.

We'll have HOW-TO sections--How to polish your perfectly painted car, How to shoot flat blak evenly and How to get the perfect red wheels...oh, let's not forget the most important How to...grinding off blak rubber from your used tires to get whitewalls.

We should have a classifed too...no "wanted" section tho cuz no one wants pieces to build a hot rod, and of course a minimum price of, hmmmmmm, let's say $100,000 for a perfectly finished car.

AND to top it all off...this mag will be for only those cars NEVER published in a magazine...up front costs, from the owner, will be for a certain package...let's say $550.00 per page (B & W), minimum of three pages, $2500.00 per page for full color (minimum of 4 pages), copy writing the article will be extra, and photography will be available for an additional charge, all payable in advance.

There will be no minimum print run guarantee, nor will there be circulation numbers...and I reserve the right to refuse any car (I would?).

    Any takers?

    R-

  26. I dunno why not.

    My 32 roadster is glass.
I had a complete, probably woulda run SBC powered steel 32 roadster located.
Price, $7000. which wasn't too bad, but I'd just finished a 63 Chevy short bed half ton and was tired of dueling with the rust monster so I turned the steel 32 down.
    No regrets either.

Your car is looking good, but better yet, kudo's on posting a pic of it.

I've invited more than a few who've tossed out a less than favorable comment about a car to show their car and you're the first guy who ever did.

There ought to be a medal for that.

This'll have to do.

Thanks, actually my original post was mostly tongue-in-cheek, as I'm building a red 32 (cranberry red). A friend jokes that the most fun at a car show is to announce on the PA "will the owner of the red 32 ford please come to the ticket booth." All my models as a kid were "testors ruby red" :)
