I had a similar problem with my column mounted tach. I got a piece of black electrical cord and removed the wires from the jacket. Then I fed the tach wires into the empty jacket and simply 'slack-wired' it from the tach through a hole drilled in the column drop. You will be surprised how much better those wires look when they're not encased in that convoluted plastic. As someone said earlier..........you can move the switch down the column a bit to minimize the wire run.
i used a shifter column tube... 40 ford i think...came with the upper and lower clamps... looks factory
I just used the asphalt coated loom looped it under the column and down the column under the dash. Clean & simple. Not the best picture, but only one I have showing it: Sent from my iPhone using TJJ
Late 50's Ford cars have a U-shaped steel piece that runs down the column to hide the turn signal wires, and it clips in place. Would look like it was factory, but I like the idea of a shifter tube as well. To me, taped up wires look like taped up wires, and trying to jam them down a column tube that wasn't designed to carry them is just asking for a short. I can take a pic of a Ford column with the pieces on it if you want to see it, just let me know.
add 2 layers of black shrink tubing over the wires and it will never wear out or put a section of a plastic bottle inside column to hold the wires to the jacket
my thoughts would be to just stick your hand out the window to signal, and leave the turn signal off the column. but if you still want to know what i would do, i like the idea of a painted line running the wires down the column. or even mounting the turn signal behind the dash with the lever pointing down under the dash. -danny
Any sheet metal shop could bend up a low profile channel for the wires to go behind. Screw to the bottom of the column and paint the the color of the column. It only has to be tall enough to lay the wires side by side in the channel.
Oops, I guess I was a little late on the post. Oh well, you got it done, that is the important thing.
check out ian's $20 steering column tech. build a column and run the wires down inside the column. by far the cleanest imho and you can do it for cheappp, sell your column you have now and make money. the tech is worth a look
lmao nvm. regard my dumb *** not reading the whole thread . well anyways check out his tech, its still worth a look for the future
