If I were you , I'd take a look at the" Bowtie overdrives" web site. It will give you every bit of info on how to , install and adjust a 7004r TV cable. .......................Jack
FiftyV8, after you get done reading all that good info here are my quick tips. Make damn sure the pull length of the carb linkage matches the depth of the TV plunger. I've set them up with all of the supposed correct stuff and the plunger doesn't fully engage or bottoms out early. You want to match WOT with full plunger depth. If you're linkage geometry is correct (it's progressive, as explained in all of those articles) and the plunger depth is match to WOT you're 99% there. I've found that checking the fluid pressures with a guage against factory tables always identifies some adjustements to be made. For starters, you may discover that although all the relationships are correct, and the trans "feels" good you're not getting pressure right off of idle and this is a bad thing. Imagine if every time you push the gas you think it's dialed-in but in reality for the first few hundred RPM's it's not getting enough fluids through it. Believe me they can feel fine and have this condition. This is why they burn up. Same applies with too much pressure, the pump could be damaged a**** other things (I'm not a trans guy so I just take their word on this one). I like to set them with about 1-2psi "pre-load" where off-idle the pressure will come up instantlym and I think bowtieoverdrives.com recommends that too. I'm going to find one of the pressure tables for you..
Thanks Leevon, for all your info. I have almost completed the farication of my TV cable manifold bracket and checked that the lever length for the TV cable which is as Bowtie suggest. I have read a fair amount of the Bowtie info posted and it has been very enlightening. I'll post a pic of my bracket when finished. I really hope I can get this setup right as my ****** is new.
I was told this is true for a 350 Turbo also. If it's not adjusted correctly, it just doesn't kick down. It doesn't hurt anything. Hope that's true...
Just a couple of pic's of my bracket, nothing special but fits my manifold right. Next step to see if I can get the throttle stroke from idle to wide open correct.
