how do i open drive line a 54 chevy 150

    hey guys the names Dante from so cal i've been doing body work for a living for the past 10 yrs. i wanted to get the advice from you guys who have already done this conversion.

    i have a rocket engine and hydr trans i'm gonna drop in my 54 chevy 150. what year rear end would i need to just bolt up.

    what other things will i need to convert this over? what are the pros and cons on using a 4 link rear?

    Just my opinion but here it is what fits in these cars as in rear ends will be a 72-75 nova or malibu. as far as opening the driveline you need to get something like a turbo 350 chevy trans or you canuse the hydro but you need to switch the rear end and driveshaft not a big deal if you need a name of some guys that can do it get ahold of me

    thanks would you know the width of the rear ends. mine is 54" wide give or take 1/2".

    I think there 57 or 58 ??? not sure you have to moev the spring perches not a big deal though!! Did you need the name of the palce that can do it for you ??

    do it yourself not ever hard to do ... i dont remember what i used i think it was a camaro late 70's you need to messure from backing plates to get the right rearend and re-drill the hole to center the perch i drilled it about 2" from the center of the old hole ..there used to be a list on here mybe someone on here still has it of all the rearends that fit tell you size and make that fit..once you get that done then you need to have a drive shaft made up for it...and thats it..hope i helped

    ford 8" and 9" will also work. Just take your tape measure to the junk yard. I got an old Mustang 8" for 50.00 for my chevy.
