Easy Off is an old Used Car lot trick for commercial vans.
It works too.I cleaned off lettering that way.

  2. I'm telling you... Try the Easy Off in area of the trunk or somewhere you can't see to make sure it won't lift the paint. If not it will probably work. Then again, so will laquer thinner if the enamel paint is good & hard. If not, it's wet sand city...

Don't use razor blades. Be careful with solvent. Lacquer thinner is a BAD idea regardless...

The idea of trying to repaint these areas blue is a wild guess not a response from someone with experience.

A rubber eraser wheel will work great on vinyl boat stripes but is not gonna do jack on painted stripes... BAD idea.

Not trying to be hard on anyone, but don't just go out in the garage and start doing all of this stuff without expecting some potentially BAD results...

Check and see if they are on TOP of the finish FIRST, like many others have said.

I can't comment on Easy Off, but it seems others have had success. I would surely only try that on a small painted spot somewhere I didn't care about before getting too crazy.

Mechanical sanding and buffing will remove the stripes if they are on TOP of the surface quite nicely, but will also leave a very smooth surface in those areas. If the rest of the paint has some orange peel, you will be able to see where you buffed the other areas, not to mention any fading.

You might have a local paint shop take a quick look at your situation to see if they have some first hand recommendations based on seeing your EXACT situation.

    Good luck!

I don't know whose boat had vinyl stripes.........but it wasn't mine. They were painted..........as were the numbers. Only sticker stuck was the annual renewal. I just went to my local automotive paint store and asked them how to remove it.

I've used the rubber eraser wheels, the Klingspor truck has one I demo'd. Took off pinstriping no problem. Just didn't want to spend the payola to buy one... lol

That looks like a shoebox...I removed some very old pin striping a couple months ago on my '50 shoebox...some very good friends of mine use Easy Off on a very expensive '55 Chevy Gasser - had some lettering on it - but I was scared to use it too...I tried everything mineral spirits, laquar thinner, acitone, you name it I tried it...nothing worked...so I got the Easy Off..wow it worked....be very careful of the over spray and the fumes....I had to go over it several times...acts different on each color...blue came off the 1st shot....white took several shots...red was the hardest...so be careful this stuff is nasty! Good luck! I don't blame you for wanting to remove that stuff...your car will look much better without it.

Brandy/Zman, on the rubber wheel, I will stand corrected. I have used them many times to remove conversion van (vinyl) graphics, never on paint. Will have to try it!

    Huh huh...she said "Gay Ass"

    Easy off....5 min...wipe off...reapply....

  12. Oven cleaner soaking over the stripe for 20 minutes does a great job.
You may need to give it a light buffing later with something mildly abrasive if the pinstripe raised the original finish a little bit.

I love the smell of burning rubber. Do those rubber wheels make that same smell......?

just depends...razor blade can work awesome or be a nightmare! Oven cleaner too! philly the greek has the 'safest' method. If theres a clearcoat...sand it all down and squirt it a color that makes it "all your's"!

We use the rubber wheels to take off tape stripes and decals dont use on painted stripes .every time one of our guys used oven cleaner it either screwed up his hands or paint.the best way we do it is use compand and rub the stripe go in direction of stripe not across it.It takes a little time but it works best ,
