I just got a 27 T that is a fibergl*** body and a frame made from steel tubing. It runs and drives, has headlights and one rear brake light. Can this be put in the street? Any info would help considering i dont know anything about it. -Andrew
Andrew, if you ***le it as the year of the body (27) you can get away with quite a bit as far as the safety and OG equip on the car. there are a few ways to ***le it. one is go through a ***le service... they "buy" your car, you give them a bill of sale. you "buy" the car back, and they issue you a ***le in thier name (i believe) that you can transfer into yours. several HAMBers have gone this route, and had luck. costs about $150 or so and takes a few weeks from what i have heard/read. another way to do it is buy "historical vehicular paperwork" (read that as ***le) for the year, make and model of your car. buying and selling ***les is frowned upon, so call it historical doc***ents and giver hell yet another way, but it would be ***led as the year you built it, and subject to "the man's" interpretation, and that is get a builders or project ***le. and the last i know of is, to call it a 27 ford, get someone to write you a bill of sale for a 27 ford body (no one is gonna check, and if they ask why its a 'gl*** body, tell em the OG tin was too far gone to be useable) and apply for a new ***le from the state you live in. it can take a load of paper, BS, time an effort, also costs a bit more cause the state may or may not want you to buy a "***le bond" from an insurance company... but its about the most legal way to go. You 'prolly don't need to buy a ***le from a company..... If you got a bill of sale take it to the DMV explain what you want, "A ***le" Be polite as hell when you go in there, dress decent too. Go in there asking for help, don't be an *** hole. You will walk out with all the info, possible a tag for it. GOOD LUCK!
there is one i know of in Nevada, Vegas to be exact. dont have the info for them but cant be all that hard to find. another on is in Alabama IIRC

DO NOT go to the DMV, trust me, if you're a member of AAA, go through them, they'll totally walk you through it without all the ******** of the DMV, I just ***led my 31 coupe and a 27 roadster that's not even on the road yet, no h***les with AAA. I believe here in KS, it's extremely easy to get a ***le. Had a '69 Olds 98 Conv. Had a non-highway ***le. I took it to the DMV, they mearly checked the VIN, I walked out with it tagged. Years ago, I traded an old Triumph to a friend, He ****ed up the ***le, The guy he sold it to could not get a ***le. I never ***led the car, but had it notorized to me. 12 years after I traded him, I was able to take the ***le and 2 days later I recieved a clean ***le. In another words move to Kansas..... You can ***le anything....
Do not, under any cir***stances, ***le it as a 2005 car. If you do you will have to meet any and all emission, safety etc. that pertains to the new cars.
yeah i know not to try and ***le it as a 2005. There is no way it would p*** the inspections. So the best way to do this go to AAA cause i am a member. Who doesnt want 100 mile towing for free! But do i tell them it is a 27 or do i tell them that it is a new creation? Cause there is no VIN on it. I do how ever have a bill of sale saying that it is a 1927 Ford Model T. -Andrew
Ok, here's what I did, I made up a VIN, called AAA and had them run it, naturally since I made it up it didn't exist, then I stamped the VIN on the driver's side framerail using 1/4" stamps, put it close to the firewall, make it easy for them to see, go to the DMV website and fill out & print a "bill of sale" and a "statement of facts" fill them out, take this paperwork to AAA, tell them you have been collecting parts, you finally got it on the road, you're ready to ***le it, they'll ask what year, make, model etc, tell them it's a 1927 Ford Roadster, that's what it is right? they'll give you a moving permit so you can take it to them and have the VIN verified, you'll walk out with your plates, tags and registration, ***le will show up in about 2 weeks, as long as you're not trying to hose them, they're cool as hell.
Getting a ***le for a car has alot to do with being in the right state. If at all possible, I'd say find another HAMBer from an easier goin state, have them "buy" the car, pay for all the necessary ******** to get it re-***led, and then "buy" it back to register in your home state. I've heard of this being done but I haven't tried myself, so I can't say... best of luck, tho. I know the ***** that it can be to do this, my dad went through it several times, now he won't hardly consider a car for sale unless it already has a ***le.
I had recent advice from a retired NYC cop on "Chevytalk" site that, if you have a bill of sale and a picture of the VIN, you can register in New York as long as it doesn't show-up as "stolen" on record search. I know if you register as "custom-made" safety inspection is a huge h***le... I just happen to have my 20-year old bill-of-sale here today in an envelope I rec'd from Alabama ***le Co. back then, maybe still operating today? "***les Unlimited" P.O. I'm also planning on finding a very 60's or 70's looking picture on here of a car similar to mine, getting it printed, and taking it with me to AAA to help further smooth over and "little wrinkles."
should it matter though on the body say if the frame is a 27 T frame? In my case it is not. But just in general cant you go off of the frame if the body isnt vintage? -Andrew
Don't worry about the body being f-gl***, it could be made of poo and AAA wouldn't care, they just need to make sure your VIN is not in the system. They'll verify that and handle all the reg. paperwork for ya
I tried a ***le company in a state that older cars do not require a ***le. It was in New Hampshire. I needed a ***le for Iowa. I sold it to them, they registered it and sold it back to me with their state's paperwork and a bill of sale. Took the paper work to my local DMV and tried to register it. It's a 1930 three window Chevy. As soon as they seen it was being purchased from New Hampshire they red flagged and confin****ed all of my paper work. They contacted the authorities and sent a state trooper out to my place to inspect my vehicle. The web site said it was totally legal but not according to Iowa DMV. It's a real gray area that cost me about $200. I showed the representive trooper the web site and he said it was very shady. He did inspect my vehicle and provided all the necessary paperwork and guidance to get my Iowa ***le. I did have to bond it for three years. It was far cheaper in the long run. The state trooper was very helpful in my quest for a ***le. As for the ***le companies I would ask some local questions first, who knows, you might just save $200.
