How do these rumors get started?......

I did not fire Karl /Skalnik Hot Rods for shoddy workmanship...

I did not steal Chuck away from The Hot Rod Garage and set him up in business to work on the coupe...

The coupe is not for sale...

Neither the coupe nor myself have agreed to marry flatheadpete...

It amazes me how this shit gets started...I am convinced that old hot rodders are worse than old women when it comes to gossip...

Remember back in Feb when we(Skalnik Hot Rods) were thrashin' to get the coupe ready for the Starbird Show? I went thru $$$ like it was water and ended up in serious debt so the coupe could be there, even tho it was far from finished. Needless to say, after the show I had to put the build on hold till my bank account got off'n life support. To some, I guess that must'a meant I didn't want Karl workin' on the car anymore...

Fast forward 6 months to Aug, and the bank account is breathin' on its own...I get a call from Chuck(head fabricator at Hot Rod Garage)...you all have seen his work on the coupe, he built the steering setup and pedal assembly when he was workin' there...first rate shit...he says he's given his notice and is going to leave Hot Rod Garage after 8 years to start his own shop(Zero Bomb Factory) and would like to bid on the job of finishin' the coupe...to some I guess that must'a meant I lured him away...

Well Chuck is a friend, and he is offerin' a nice discount to me to be his first customer, so I agreed. I had lunch with Karl and told him I wanted to help Chuck get his shop off the ground and Karl said that was fine with him as long as he (Karl) got credit for the build. No problem.

...soooo...the first of Sept we hauled the coupe to its new home, The Zero Bomb Factory, and work has begun to ready her for the '07 season. Here is a few pics of her in her temporary new home. Chuck's place is small and homey, and if it was a black and white photo, it would look as period perfect as back in the day. His ratty rod is really cool...here's some pics of Chuck's shop and his roadster...

One look at that garage (no insulation), and I can predict he ain't going to spend much time there in the summer, unless he's going to work naked!.

 

I'm just glad the coupe is being worked on and the project is almost finished! Having worked in a shop for 14 years it is not uncommon to have a car start in one shop and finish in another. The important thing is for the proper credit for things that are done goes to the proper person. Look forward to more updates on the project. Will replacing the SBC for the Ford be a big problem?

Well ... I plan to work a lot at night in the summers -- WITH my clothes on ... but there are two giant pecan trees that shade the building almost the entire day so it stays cooler than you might think.
