get hubs/drums off a 49-50 car? they are 5 lug, same brakes, I think the bearings are the same, you should be able to look them up on the internets if you're good at that kind of thing.

squirrel may be right [he usually is] but i thought the 51-54 front brakes are a better upgrade. 49-50 are still the huck style. if you find a parts car anyway.

he asked "on a budget", of course didn't specify what the budget is. Maybe it's $100? maybe it's $1000?

    He also said bone yard...

I've heard 1954 Chevy, so the year range is probably kinda wide, 1949-1954?

In my parts you could get drums and hubs for those year Chevys for dirt cheap.

brakes changed in 51, so 39-48 are pretty similar, 49-50 are the same brakes but 5 lug, 51-54 are the new style brakes, 5 lug, they fit the trucks which use the same brakes but were 6 lug 51-59.

It was the bearings that were a changing....drums/hubs go from the car up to 1954 - same as Vette to 1960....then the Vette got some bearing up grades to 1962.....our yard sold many a car hub/drum to the tri-five truck guys....a good drum/hub brought good money even until the early 90's.....we sold mostly the 53/54 ones...
