How do you build Friction Shocks?

Anybody know where a good how-to is on friction shocks? Whatdo you use for the friction material?

 

do a search on Hartford Shocks. There is also a guy on here that makes them too.

friction material can be almost anything hard. Many old shocks just used a piece of hardwood.
