    Maybe 75 or so Clenco's

  4. Most real model As want wood too lol

  5. My two cents and philosophy is real simple.
Get an old car or a clone of an old car and have fun with it, drive the wheels off it go to the local burger dive Friday night car show, Go to cars and coffee on the weekend and most importantly drive it like a daily driver, use it to get groceries, Go to work with it occasionally.
Fiberglass or steel it's all the same They both have their shortcomings, needless to say the steel at this point is about 100 years old, It will have its first share of rust, bad repairs, plastic filler just about every other atrocity you can do to a vintage steel body. Fiberglass is a godsend for somebody that is budget-minded especially if they want a 32 33 or 34 Ford or a model A roadster, some of those fiberglass car bodies can be approaching 70 years old now as somebody else mentioned They became real common in the 1970s and '80s those are now vintage and are older than most things on the road today and they are most certainly older than the era we're trying to replicate considering they were using 1930 automobiles in 1955 (25ish year old cars).
I personally would like people to be more accepting of glass cars especially if younger people are driving them because I want to grow the hobby not shrink it which we are seeing happen unfortunately.

At the end of the day it's all about having fun, I try to do everything on a shoestring budget and I really like the challenge of hunting and gathering the parts, I also like off make stuff that's a little more obscure and I like the challenge of building stuff. Some people don't have this ability to work on stuff at least not to the extent that I've decided to take on, maybe they just don't have the time or the will or maybe a little of column A or column B but a done glass car will get them in the hobby for probably half the price of a steel car maybe even less. There is room in this hobby for everyone, there is even room for the rat rod guy and the Honda Fanboy.
All us car guys need to be more accepting.
Also it should be mentioned because everyone else I think has mentioned it in the previous five pages, original cars are approaching 100 years old and they were built during the depression, a 1932 Ford was a very limited production car for such a mass produced item even more so if you want a coupe or roadster. Even a Model A is starting to become a little scarce just search your local classified ads to see what I mean, honestly it's surprising how many are still out there considering they survived scrap drives of world war II, The young kids buying them in the 1950s and '60s and Even the great die off of the great generation that had them stored in garages all over the country. How much of that stuff is disappeared to scrap metal?
On a side note we have debates about like fiberglass body versus a steel body but nobody talks about a 1932 Ford frame or a Model A frame, is an aftermarket frame kind of like a fiberglass body? I mean it's the same kind of thing, What about if you're using an engine like a small block Chevy from the 1980s or '90s is it the same as using a 1958 283? I think the key here is Steel is cool, there is a chance Henry Ford could have physically laid his own hands on that car but that being said there's no reason to be nostalgic about it, It's a hot rod, fiberglass is a total hot rod product, It's light it' fairly easily repairable and as long as it looks the style I'm going to give it a pass. If it looks like any of the street rods from 1997 I'm probably going to say I'm not a fan but it's all about style.

correct...and I did get my answer.... nothing has changed... perceived value...most everyone agrees.... glass cars are still worth about 25% of a real henry car being the same quality of build...and people are still gonna ask the same questions....is it real... did you build it... how long have you owned it....

pretty sure I'll be leaving soon...cash is becoming more and more worthless... in 10 years i watched 100 dollar bills drop to 50's... and it's gonna happen again... the cars you could buy for 10k are now 20k.. hell even jack in the box tacos that used to be 99 cents are now 2 bucks.... if you had 1 million dollars worth of cars 10 years ago.... you'd have 2 million to day... I don't know about hobbies..... I'm a slave to my cars... but its a labor of love... I don't wanna be in the GOB club.... or drive my car from the trailer to the parking spot and sit in a chair all day... but I am gonna die and try to leave as much as I can to my sons and not my uncle...

Is a finished 32 roadster worth 1/4 of the same quality finished steel 32? Never.

1/4 is a crazy number. I'd say it's more that a glass car is 50-80% of the resale value of a real steel car.

Thats really more about your ability to recognize a good deal or something that makes this or that car worth more than others of the same model...........like being owned once by a celebrity. Do you think a Boyd Coddington built car will be more valuable years from now, or a copy of it built by some unknown.......like me :D? I don't think it matters what type of construction (glass/steel), you can turn a profit off any well done one.....if you build it cheaply enough.

Not trying to be a smarta** with this question..

Why was it worth more? Is that just your opinion, or did the parts (not labor) equal more than $50k? Since you have a rod shop, I figure you are counting the hours of labor..........and thats the same problem an owner who sources a shop to do the build faces when he sells the car. Many cars bring far less than the build costs. On the other hand, someone building a car at home over a period of a few years, and maybe driving it while building tends to look at what the parts cost and not the labor.

For me, glass is a preference. Mostly because I have worked in boat manufacturing for 40 years, and have the experience and resources to do anything with it.

Steel car on the other hand I need expensive help to make the changes I would want. Add in the fact that glass bodies are cheaper as a bonus.

I’m not trying to impress anyone, just build cars that make me happy, on a middle class working stiff’s budget. If steel owners want to look down their nose at my stuff, that’s their character flaw, not mine. But I spent years hot rodding Corvettes, so I’m used to it. The Corvette Nazi’s checking the part numbers on 60 year old hose clamps really don’t like my stuff either.
