OK, that is the explanation I was looking for. I have already built a 65 mustang when I was 14, and a 68 courgar when I was 16. Since then I built countless rockcrawlers. I am parting the last one out, and will start looking for a 27-31Model A pickup to build. I want to chop the top, slam it on airbags with a 4 link. My wife is trying to convince me to paint it some bright, flashy color, but I really want a primered black body with a nice flathead 8. I am sure that will change in time, but if I find the right deal, I am all over it. I now know I want a traditional hotrod. Thanks for the help guys Dima
Traditional hotrods are NOT bagged and the only time they were in primer was when the dude who built it was saving his money for paint. Just an FYI...
Building rockcrawlers should be good practice for sound fabriction skills. Those things have to be tough! BTW, shiny paint and leaf springs are prefered to primer, airbags, and 4-links, but there is still lots to learn here that can be applied to your project. Keep your eyes open, you'll find something. I had the same problem, so I started with just a cowl and some doors, and build a roadster pickup(not done yet).
All joking aside, Flatty, you dont need bags to get em low. Search around the HAMB and your desire for slammed a-bones will be quenched. Sweep the rails, Z the back and kazaam-See pic. My buddy's car.
YA! Best damn thing I've read all day! Sounds like you have a good background, glad you found us on the HAMB!
Found my last one at a swap meet. Gave 1/2 of the asking price. Money talks in the last hours of the meet.
I am extremely lucky and I know silly people who constantly offer to sell me their vintage tin for ridiculously low prices.
Just tryng to save you an *** whopping Bro. I'm new here also but I have seen the carrnage here and its not for the faint of heart
I do it by knowing exactly what I am looking for and doing a ton of networking. Don't be in a hurry and you will eventually find what you want. Also don't get tempted by something that looks like a good deal, but its not really what you are looking for. Stay forcused on the goal.
Very good advise. I have fallen into this trap more than a few times Usually after you buy some piece of junk rotted thing and paid decent $$ for it - somthing that is less $$ and in MUCH better shape show's up - like within a week. Never fails for me I recently bought some old tin - I knew it wasn't the greatest, but after I sandblasted it last night, it seems to be ALOT Worse than expected (tomorrow I'll find a nice door for less than what I paid for this junker)
my advice to anyone would be to buy some binoculars- they save walking buy a camera- with some zoom go to the county- make friends and drive around the back roads in all seriousness im from the country! i never been shot, or shot at!, im haven't been ****d or turned into sasuges by a nice big "country boy" and I regually find old cars this week I've found a 35 for truck, a burnt morris and a stock racer fj sedan! tyler
yes... definately better as a "top up" car. But it has paint and chrome... so according to the H.A.M.B. by-laws that offically makes it a "hot-rod" ... doesn't it? ...if you stripped off the paint and let it rust properly it might make a really *****in' rat-rod. LOL!!!
