buy, sell, & trade. start young, always accept free stuff, save the stuff 'till it's worth something, do side work for parts (barter) almost every one of my projects over the years was funded this way, I bought a bunch of junk in the '70's and '80's that was considered s**** metal at the time, funny how 30 years can change s**** into gold, yes my parents thought I was crazy but who is laughing now?

Horse trading not only pays for my cars and my builds but also a lot of my household expenses. It doesn't take anything more than knowing what stuff is worth or how to find out what it's worth. Last week it was a 65 Mustang fastback on Craigslist for $800. $5 in quarters to clean it up at the car wash and a $50 used hood also from craigslist and it sold this morning for $2,400. I bought a set of wheels on craigslist for $80 and sold them for $350 this month. I buy just about anything I can find if I'm sure I can flip it for a profit to pay for my car addiciton.

I also find cars that have been sitting in yards or garages and leave notes. I've even had several given to me, but many times I can get them pretty cheap, clean them up a little and double my money. It's urban treasure hunting at its best.

I know another woman who got fired from her job 7 years ago and since then ALL she does is cruise decent neighborhoods the evening before trash pick up. You honestly would NOT believe what people throw away! She picks it up and sells it on craiglsist or has a garage sale with the stuff once a month. If she gets too much stuff she takes it to a flea market and rents a stall. She made over $35,000 doing this last year, no joke.

always keep a look out for deals , even if its a car or truck you can repair and re-sell. when i was younger i lived on ramen nooddles (15 cents a pack) and mac-n-cheese so i had extra dough for my project. now i work overtime as much as possible , i mow yards and do handy man type work on the side.

With enough projects to keep me busy doing dis***embly, I don't worry too much about spending. Only problem is having a place to put all of the parts, and remembering.

One way I look at things is if the car isn't costing you money to sit, it can sit.

I am blessed to have good friends that can do the things I can't/don't know how. I have had my current ride for 2 year and really haven't been able to do much. Daycare for two kids takes ALL my money. Buy things, sell things, trade work, what ever it takes. I got lucky and bought a set of Supremes for $200 and sold them for $400.
    Things like that help.

I DJ Car Shows, play oldies for all of the old farts and I also referee soccer games. The DJ work keeps me around the hobby and I get paid to annoy the heck out of guys like you. The refereeing keeps me in decent shape and I get to see all the good looking soccer moms as well.

Pretty good work when I can get it.

I build VW motors stock and high performance. V12 Flat heads and early Toyota motors to offset the spending on my hobby. Always looking forward for the next project.
