    How much?
if its just a slight spill..like maybe 2 or 3 shot glasses full..I would just keep soaking it up with a sponge and wringing it out until I got the majority of it up. Than i would use a clean wad of paper towels and keep pressing it down on the spot where it spilled until it comes up dry.
Than un hook the battery to the car and leave it with the doors open outside and let it air out for a few days..
dont use a vacuume cleaner or shop vac or anything electrical powered..that could get ugly with the fumes.

oh and the reason for disconecting the battery is so it dont go dead while the doors are open, and dome light left on

Yeah, just let it evaporate. Then get some nice smelling carpet cleaner, spray on, vacuum out. It's probably always gonna have a hint of gasoline smell now.

Throw money at it. Gas only reacts to money. Watch out who you tell about spilling gas, the speculators may hear you and raise the barrel price.

Wait a minute...you're like a CHICK, and you're asking a bunch of filthy, illiterate, and generally divorced GREASERS who leave black tracks whenever they enter the house how to CLEAN something??!? I weep for our society!
The only cleaning technique I know is to blast it with spray Gumout or Braklene, hope the object doesn't dissolve, and pry the fumes dissipate before a female comes along...
Braklene is seriously good stuff for anything that won't evaporate, but once you put it on open the windows and drive like hell to keep the fumes from dissolving your whole nervous system. You can get out anything petroleum, and I have even removed stomped-in chewing gum from a rug with the carb cleaner. House smelled like a burning toxic waste dump for a week, but there was as definite clean spot on the rug!

ShamWOW!!!! Are ya following me, camera guy?

    Gah, I keed, I keed.

Best thing to do would be to open the doors, roll down the windows, and put a fan or fans blowing into it. After you let it sit like that for a day or three, douche the spot with Febreeze (second only to beer as the single man's best friend) and let that sit for a few hours, then put the fans to it again. Also- spray ALL interiour cloth with the Febreeze because the stench of dead dinosaur goodness has by now permeated into all porous surfaces. The key is air movement and destruction of odor. The Febreeze will work better than ordinary carpet cleaner because it is only intended as an odor destroyer- you are not going to clean gasoline with carpet cleaner, it's best to just let the shit evaporate. I would recommend against the water unless you plan on removing the carpet and batting- water will leach down into the batting, only causing more rust.

Oh yeah- allow me to affix my safety nazi helmet - it's really really really fucking dangerous to transport gasoline inside of a car. Really really fucking really dangerous, and it will make an otherwise harmless fender bender into a really really really fucking horrible slow and painful death. Don't transport gasoline inside of a car.

I don't know about you all but I like the smell of gas HE HE .

  14. I'd guess most of the previous suggestions would work pretty well, except for the ones involving matches. If there was anything still left behind I'd try putting down a layer of shop floor absorbant like Zorbs-All or even kitty litter and let it work for a couple days. If you're still left with a gasoline smell I've heard that you might try putting dry, unused coffee grounds on the carpet for a couple days and then vacuum it up. Even if it doesn't work your car will smell like caffiene and gasoline when you open it up in the morning and that ain't the worst way to start your day!

I did the same thing in my new HHR, use Febreze or any basic dish soap/ shampoo. The smell will go away in a day or so. You'll be fine.

  20. Try soaking it in Folex from the Walmart. Might pour some Channel 5 on it. It's cheaper than gasoline..................

  21. Well this just goes to show , if your dad is legally blind he shouldn't be driving anyway much less with something as valuable as gasoline . Did it have a seatbelt on ? I'll wager not .

i think you might have posted on the wrong place. Most of us don't even have carpet, much less know how how to clean it.

brakelene is nasty shit, it would probably eat up the carpet. i say shopvac and water, dilute, vacuum, dilute, vacuum... or the earlier mentioned, dilute and soak up with towels

Let it evaporate with all the windows down and then hit the spot with full-strength Simple Green to break up the residue.

But be aware that you may have a spontaneous-combustion hazard in there with that Chicago heat and humidity. You may want to just get a new rug from ACC for about $150.

whoa... Braklene is good stuff, but everytime I use it I go into a coughing fit. So definitely drive like hell after application. Maybe get 10 or 12 fans too! Actually, after you smell it for a few minutes, it starts to smell good. Or is that just my brain dying a little? UGH.:p

Hey all, most of the suggestions are right on, but it will clear out on its own if you just set the car outside in the sun for a few days and let that nasty old ozone do its trick followed by the uv shower. PLUS!!!,,,, Do any of you use gas as rodent deterent??? works like a charm when you store a vehicle. I dont dump it on the carpet (even if I had any in the car) but leave a small container of it open in the closed up car or truck and the vapors keep all the mice and other critters out of the car. In spring, you push it out, open the doors and follow the above solution and you are off and runnin. D
