Vinegar will work well on many mineral encrustations.

i was wondering about something similar. THe back window of the poncho has the weird areas where the glass curves and right in the center where the elements run off the roof, kinda looks oily like the surface of the puddles after a good rain in a gas station parking lot. It's not noticable hardly at all unless your looking at it just right, but I'd still like to get rid of it if it's possible....

The tub/tile cleaner as Home Depot is better than CLR, but be careful around paint. Also, a wet 'Bounce' dryer sheet will take them off if they are not too bad... we do this on our clear shower glass once/week and it works pretty good.

Use the finest steel wool you can find, 0000 or more. DRENCH the window with your favorite auto glass cleaner and use the steel wool all over the windshield.
When you are satisfied, hose it down again and wipe with paper towels. I've used this method to help take out little pits, too.

Toothpaste on your finger. Works well for light scratches too.

  21. There's a product called,"No Touch Auto Glass Stripper"made by No Touch Products(which are available at most auto parts stores)that is used to remove Rain-X and other silicone-based products from glass.I use it to prep glass before I paint on it and it WORKS!Smells like the old Bon Ami cake soap gilders used to prep glass for gold leafing.Comes in 8 oz bottles for about 6 or 7 dollars.Check with your friendly auto parts dealer.

I have used a clay bar to take junk off the front glass,
don't know how it would work on a stain.

Bein a lazy bastige, I cover the offending windshield with rags soaked in vinegar. Let it sit and soak inside or in the shade for about 30-45 minutes---keep the cloth saturated. Hose it off and dry the glass...looks like new. I've not seen any place where it's damaged the paint but I'm no only lazy, I'm careful........and too lazy to fix damaged paint.

You can use #0000 steel wool soaked in liquid rubbing compound. Don't get to aggresive with the rubbing. I've done quite a few and never scratched a window. I did put some scratches in a mirror once. Also Auto detail product distributors have a paste that works real good as well. With both methods after you are done the window will be nice and clean. Some times it might seem its not working by lookin at it but if you wipe the compound off you'll see that it is.

I second the vinegar suggestions. My car has oxidized white paint, and a good bit of chrome. Anyhow, I mentioned to my girlfriend how I needed to polish up the paint a bit, and she suggested vinegar mixed in with the soap. I tried it, and it works amazingly well. Made the paint shine, the glass crystal clear, and the chrome blinding bright. Stunk like egg salad while washing it though... Anyhow, vinegar is some mightily powerful stuff.

Real hardware stores carry stuff called Glass Wax, that will usually take care of it. Works good as a Rain-x Type repellant as well

I'll double damn guarantee you that steel wool and sos pads scratch glass. the finer the the wool the finer the scratches, hell with all the care I go thru to make things perfect in the glass shop I've found that anthing the touches glass can and will scratch it. there are new product out and available that are "AutoGlass Water Spot Remover" I've found them all to work, some better than others. If you can't find one e-mail me and I'll rip yo---eerr sell you some. [IMG]
