I agree with all the others... when you put distence between you and anything it doesn't work out!!! Get that ride in your drive way and start working on it!! Trust me I am half a world away from mine right now and when I get back to the states I will be moving to Hawaii and my ride will be sitting in a storage unit. I look at the bright side of my situation cause it gives me more time to buy the parts that I already know I need.

Good Luck and I know about the body issues being in the Military and I am 27 as well!! One Step at a Time Bro!!

I listen to certain types of music that motivate me. Different moods warrant different music. Also, don't think about how much work you have to get done, I've done that and it murders motivation, think about stuff in small quan***ies. If you DON"T think about the big picture when you're working on her, just the specific thing your working on at that time you get engulfed in it and work fast. Dont forget about the big picture though-that could end up ugly. My coupe is 90 miles away at my parents place, I drive there every single weekend unless we have something goin on at the shop. Also-think about hot naked chics asking you for rides when its done ;)

  3. OK, you asked for it. My motivation comes from guys like you that make every excuse not to get things done. It inspires me to NOT want to be "that" guy. Sorry, but
    A-it's the truth
    B-you asked

If it helps, ANY amount of work eventually adds up to something done, no matter how discouraging it seems in the beginning. So, get after it already

What gets me going is bustin my knuckles, welding burns, minor cuts, and all the small irritants & casualties that come with the territory. The more pissed off I get, the more I want to stay awake for 18hrs trying to "defeat" the evil machine thats trying to stop my sawzall blitzkrieg. Its like a war zone! :D

Setting some goals keeps me motivated. I'm busting my **** on my '60 right now to get it to paint so it's ready for mid April and the first outing here in Cincy (Cincy Street Rod's NSRA Appreciation Day.) April sounds far off until you realize how close spring is.
I missed 32csr's party last Friday because I was laying on my back painting my frame. (Sorry man, but it will be worth it)

But, to keep yourself motivated since your so far from your ride. Try getting yourself a stack of the 'little books', some Mad Fab DVDs, and maybe build a scale model or two. That keeps me going.

I have been wondering how to get motivated myself. Seems like ambition thieves show up right around the time I want to work on my ride. When I can keep them at bay my wallet tells me it is time for a break so I guess I am in between a rock and a hard place.

At the risk of further stirring Rickybops ire, I'd like to expand upon my earlier post. When I said this comes up every year at this time, I was referring to the fact that it's been shown that depression is at it's highest at this time of year, in fact, January 24 (you posted on the 25th) is considered the worst day of the year for depression ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6847012/ ). Add the fact that in this part of the country, especially around Pittsburgh, you may not see a sunny day for months, giving this area one of the highest rates of SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder.
So is it any wonder people have a harder time getting motivated at this time of the year?
Hang in there buddy, spring is just around the corner.

I'm 71 and built two rods in 5 yrs, not real fancy but presentable. Turn of the TV, go the the shop and do some thing ever day. SOME thing, don't care what, SOMETHING. Both of them were on the road in about 1 to 1 1/2 yrs. And that was in the Islands, where you cant go to NAPA and get what you need and when parts come in months instead of days or weeks. If you can't find it, make it, get it running, get the brakes working, sit on a milk crate and drive it in the drive way. Do some painting, SOMETHING, and soon it on the road and then it a fun thing. In this small community, it seems like there is more deaths in the winter than any other time. Its hard for everyone to get motivated. Winter generally ****s because it is actually hard to just get motivated to go outside and start the car. Much less put on a water pump or weld in cab corners. Bills go up, your health goes down, and theres mud and water everywhere.

First, you need to figure out a way to be closer to your car. Next, you remember that scene in the first part of American Graffiti when they show cruising? Yea, that always got me going. The very idea of floating in traffic a**** a sea of m*** produced coffins never failed to get me to work on something. Even if all I did was make a list of plans and thoughts. There is always time to do research and development for the next step.

Truthfully, what i think really stops me is my nosey neighbors---who seem to do nothing but watch t.v., but leave the curtains open. As if i'm SO fascinating? Everything i do, apparently, is so fascinating to them.

    b) Yes, i do go into "emo/goth" mode when the weather gets cold. But i don't think this is the main problem---the "emo/goth" because it fades. And the cold, because you can always go inside every few minutes.

Here's what really does it for me as far as motivation:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_Parks
Think and be more like her.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tank_Man
Think and be more like him.

You can conquer ANY automotive problem.

I have been losing my motivation. First is an the age and physical factor. There seems to be a lack of any good car shows around the area, except local rinky dink cruses. Parts pretty much have to be mail ordered from other states. Autofair at Charlotte is just a bunch of junk and repro parts. GoodGuys show is the best we have and it is at the end of October and it rains every year. Hell, I can't even find a place that can mount a tire without ****ing something up. The GNRS is this weekend in Cali. and we have 8 inches of snow on the ground. Other than those few things everything is peachy. I would sell my car and give up, but people are so tight around here I would couldn't even get close to what it's worth. I usually have to sell cars at Carlisle Pa. or out of state.

This thread makes me feel like a looser! MY project is out in the 2 car garage with a garage door and I can get to it any time I want. The only thing stopping me is that my GF's car is in the other side and I have to move that out and unpack all my tools from on and around the car to work on it... and it is a little cold outside - it is 44 deg right now. I guess the only depressing thing for me is that I have so much left to do on it before I can drive it. Boo hoo.

  19. First of all, you'll get warm once you start working. Second, it ain't gonna fix itself. So, keep telling yourself how much is left to do before you can drive it..........year, after year, after year. Send the ****ing thing over here with a box of money, I'll get it running for you
