Howza Bruthas, I want to ship some fenders and running boards across the country to Maine from Oregon. What is the best way to do this? Thanx!
How big are they??? That makes the difference.. I have shipped small fenders (56 Ford Pu rears)Fed Ex, forget ups, Greyhound bus is how I do most large parts. Forward Air if youre close to an airport is the cheapest and fastest.
I have three '35 Ford pick up fenders, a set of running boards and some hoods. Do I package 'em up in cardboard? Palletize 'em? ????
Bus is the cheapest way just make sure you insure it.I am about to ship a BMW hood to Atlanta for $50.00!!!
Not to hijack this post, but I need info on getting a ****** to a HAMBer in Vienna, Austria. Anyone tell me about customs, etc? Who would you use? DAVE
Everything has to be wrapped up in cardboard, etc. Typical fender gets bubble wrapped, then cardboard corners for all the drop points, wrapped in a big *** cardboard skin, with shrink wrap all around that. Make sure to put the address on the cardboard part before you wrap it up, because sometimes the automated equipment thers it off, along wiyth the shipping label. I already know these parts are too big to ship ups all together. Or fed ex.. for that matter. I would wrap it all up and use Forward Air. You might have to put it on a pallet too, but thats gonna be the cheapest. They quoted like 60 bucks to ship a complete Ford 9 inch rear to the east coast. Nobody else will touch something that heavy...
DAVE.. on the trans going to Europe, I'd say contact an airline that goes there, a trans doesnt weigh more than a big fat *****.. or if you have a buddy in the military, he can get it there cheap or free. I shipped a disc brake conversion to the UK using the post office, and it was 250 bucks for 140 pounds in 3 seperate boxes. I think it would have been cheaper to fly there myself and hand-deliver the parts!
Shifts, try Bax Global. Most of the stuff I´m buying in the US is shipped by them. They are cheap, fast and friendly.Plus they always handle all the custom and toll stuff for me. They are located at almost any airport in the world. I´ve heard about the ****** deal and the guy from vienna is a friend of mine.I´m located near the Munich Airport, so I would be able to pick the ****** up and deliver it to Dr***burg for free.Might help to save some bucks.
Baumi, Thanks for the tip about Bax Global. I got in contact w/ them this morning & the are working up a quote for me. It would be cheaper for them to ship by water if Rainer can wait that long. DAVE
Greyhound is good. Like they say "Thank Gawd 'n' Greyhound she's gone..." Don't do UPS any more period. Won't go into the story, suffice to say we no longer do business. Fed EX has ground service now that's pretty dependable and reasonable, but you'll probably get stuck with oversize on fenders. Not good. The little stuff goes Parcel Post.
Just got the quote from BAX Global, its only $323.26 for air & that includes customs!!! They will pick it up at my door & Rainer can pick it up at the airport in Vienna. DAVE
As I see UPS have hottest empolyees... unfortunately not worldwide. Dave , tax +toll for that ****** should be a least about 120$ I guess.200 bucks for shipping a ****** overseas seem fair to me. I´m glad I could help!
