I've used this trick for years. The probabilty of them even bothering to lift the hood is right next to zero if not less.

I make sure my cars are always broken or apart so that even I can't start them.

    THIS WORKS GREAT
I owned a 33 3 window that came with this setup. a remote alarm box with a gravity switch [ if they try to tow ] and a pressure switch under driver seat [ if they to sit on it ]. the setup worked great and didn't make a sound when turning it on/off. nobody know it was there. it didn't lock the doors or blink the lights. in NY they get em quick, never had a problem but was glad it was there. it had a very loud and unique squeal. put a 12 pack on the seat one day with out turning it off and my ears rang for hours. but over insuring doesn't hurt either.

So, you guys that swap wires around, or pull the coil wire and replace it with hose do this everytime you park your car ???? I doubt it. That would suck everytime you go to the store for a soda.......Plus, if I were a thief, and I wanted your car, I'd know that you are doing something under your hood to disable your car. I'm guessing here, but I'll bet people that are going to steal something more specialized than a camry or honda accord probably scope out there target a little bit.

I pull the keys and lock the doors, and I pay my insurance.

yeah, why I would want something as a simple as a switch or combination of switches.. but of course that does add to the list of things that could leave you sitting on the side of the road... I have thought about a removable "racing" style or the likes ... steering wheel. pull the pin and walk away... course then Im stuck carrying a steering wheel.

My rig isn't a daily driver and the whole neighborhood is used to seeing me under the hood. Mine's a 64 F100 and is just a bit too long to live in the garage, so on the driveway she be. We live across the street from the police station in a pretty good neighborhood where loud parties and stop sign running is a big deal, not too much in the way of GTA. Moving around a couple wires is a good way to prevent some random prick that happens by looking to snatch an easy ride home. Locks won't always stop 'em and i'd rather not deal with the head-ache of an insurance claim.

:DOh yeah, Lots of guns and mean scary dogs help too...;)

Uh, don't you go to prison if you shoot some theiving prick outside of your home regardless of property lines and the fact that they're stealing?

A thief will get it if they want it bad enough, just insure it and enjoy the ride.

My ignition box has an anti-theft feature. Saved my coupe one time; rat bastards got as far as in front of my next-door-neighbor's house when it stopped and wouldn't start again. Found the car sitting there in the morning.

That ignition system seemed a little spendy when I bought it, but not so much after that.

Power wire to my distributor, it came loose one time even I couldn't take my car until it dawned on me. I fixed it nice and neat then added a switch for the times when the car isn't homein the garage.

Some thieves use a short wire with an alligator clip on each end, and a screwdriver to steal old cars because you don't have to break anything, or cut any wires to do it. Wont stop them.

Got a call from the UAMS police one night, said my '96 Caprice was idling in the parking lot. I drove up there and the Drvrs window was smashed and the column was broken all to hell. The police drove up and the guys ran off.
All they had to do was push the brake pedal down to engage the shifter into gear and they'd been off. They were in a panic or something and were trying to get it into gear when the police showed up. I left my wife my truck and drove the Caprice home and replaced the broken stuff with Roadmaster peices. It's part of life and just go on.

Dual straight pipes. It'll wake me up, and the neighbors.
Total up the rest of my bag of tricks, the deterrent factor is so high that I leave the key in it all the time. Standard transmission with elongated hole in the shifter slot between low and reverse. If you hunt around for the gear, when you put it into reverse, then try to shift to low(without knowing the drill) it locks up in reverse and you can't get it out without crawling underneath with the pliers. Coupled with the fact it has to be choked to start it, even in the summer, with manual choke that if you don't baby it, it'll flood. Even if they get it started, odds are after backing out it'll lock in reverse.

All the "start-defeat" tricks aside, whatcha do when they come to your place with a roll back? A thief that want's you car and plans ahead, will be able to defeat almost any alarm/etc, you design.

    Insure it and enjoy it.

  24. Lots of threads on "how not to get your car/truck/trailer/tools/shop/home fucked with" on here.

If I ever catch anyone doing anything to my shit and I get my hands on them, they'll have difficulty processing solid foods, have a distinct inability to walk (ever again) and be singing three octaves higher than they could before. Assuming they'll even be able to breathe.

No kidding, only the local "wanna-be's" are looking to steal my stuff;)

If I had something that warranted a ride on a roll back, it'd be tucked deep away...then again, I watch that show "ovehaulin", and they swipe some good projects on thier truck.

That line reminds me of a movie I saw...

"Why did you shoot him 6 times?"

"That's all the bullets mine gun held"

don't matter if it is nice or pos. my 85 burban with homemade roof ladder rack and rust was taken, 80 chevy are common-just a srewdriver and they are in---door lock poped out, then they crack the col. and pop the start rod. and they are gone... kill switch is best imo. and daddyfink-- is that middle rifle a true model 44?

Lots of good ideas in here as far as security, I'm quite paranoid although I wouldn't intend on driving a nice car and leaving it for an extended period of time unless in my garage or something. I'll probably put a killswitch in amongst other things, I have heard it is good to have multiple security devices combined in a vehicle.

Trunk Monkey as posted earlier, although I don't want a trunk full of monkey shit and banana peals.

I'm of the mindset to make it hard for a thief, but if they want it it's gone. They make car insurance for a reason.

How would you easily defend from a rollback? I've heard from the repo world that dawn soap under the tires makes any vehicle in park with the brake set slide onto the rollback pretty good.

It's never been a concern of mine. I take my key out of the ignition on occasion, but that's about it. I guess I've been lucky so far, and live and visit areas where people respect my shit....
