Well, unfortunately I'm still pounding the pavement looking for employment(and/or waiting for replies) ...and still trying to (and again, unfortunately) sell the Desoto. In an effort to keep my insanity-er, I mean sanity, and to apease some of my brethern here on the HAMB and a few would be buyers... I have pulled the Desoto fenders from the rafters, prepped them (pretty much), and placed them back on the vehicle. I was always weary of how the fenders would make the land yacht - look more like a land battleship, but actually it doesn't hurt that bad (and all it cost me was about five hours of my time and a few sanding/grinding disc I already had)... I think it's the bare metal finish look that's got my attention.
This was a wise choice. The car looked awful without front fenders, it looks much nicer now. Should make it easier to find a buyer.
You were worried how a car designed with fenders originally, would look with them back on? It's not a roadster, it's a fat fendered car for Pete's sake.
