I've got a buddy with a 62 Chevy P/U with 3 on the tree and he wants to switch to 3 on the floor. Has anybody here done this before? Does anyone have a referral to a tech article? Any help would be appreciated.
He can do it with one of these from Hurst http://www.hurst-shifters.com/hurst-products/MASTERSHIFT-3-SPEED
mr.gasket makes a inexpensive floor shift conversion , comes with shifter, all attaching parts , hardware etc. with instuctions. fits your truck, including a host of other gm,ford, and mopar applications. cars and trucks. i just bought one new, cost me 54.95 . cheap and works great. if that works for you i can even give you a part number. there way easier to do in trucks than cars because your floorplate unbolts in that year truck and you can do most attaching from the inside of the cab. hope that helps out..... chris
1. Do an introduction in "New to the Hamb". 2. If I remember, there is a square plate on the trans tunnel that you remove. Then all you do is get a shifter and linkage to change it over.
Step #1... Buy a 3 speed floor shifter that matches your particular application. Step #2... Follow the instructions found inside the box.
There's a fella, on that auction site we all know and love, that has NOS Sparkomatic shifters for cars AND trucks, just do a search for "Sparkomatic". A 62' Chev P.U. Truck should have the early Muncie with the 4 bolt side cover, and a non-syncro first gear. Is your friend lucky enough to have the 261 engine also. My Father had a 62' Chev P.U. Truck he bought new, with a 261, 3-speed column shift, half ton; it was the first stick shift I ever drove, and I was scared shiftless. Butch/56sedandelivery.
