I also went after two trucks about 400 miles from home and did both in one day.

I drove from Tallahasse to Chicago Il in Dec with an open trailer. Snow, rain, salt. Was a nightmare journey.

Been 14hrs each way from CT to OHIO over New Years weekend (years ago) in a snow storm. Looked at two project cars in different locations and drove home with neither. Lost the heat in the truck on the way home-long cold ride. Just part of the fun.

i sold a 27 touring front half to a guy he wanted it delivered to harleysville, pennsylvania near philidelphia..i started out in victoria, tx..after the detour from a wreck it ended up being 2150 miles..i drove it straight through only stopping for diesel...the way back was more pleasant..i think i stopped in every antique store in virginia and tennessee..i know i wasnt getting a project but delivering one should fit in the category..i got paid plenty to drive it up there so i was happy to do it..

I've sold several that went like 6-10 hours away, but never drove more than about an 1 and a half for one.

Probably couldn't afford it with the reckless driving/exhibition of speed ticket you got!!!!!

That is smokin' time my friend.

Albuquerque to Modesto Ca.(2500 mi round trip) to pick up my buddy's 53 Pontiac, got back and 2 days later drove to Ventura Ca.to get my Ranchero (1700 mi round trip) last summer. This is after driving to Ventura the week before the Modesto trip for vacation and then had to drive out to Ventura again a couple months after to pick up a kitchen stove (restored 1950 Wedgewood) Real tired of driving across the Mohave that summer!

Fresno to a rural wilderness area in south central Washington along the Columbia river. Bought 2 Divco milk trucks and had to make two trips. 3,200 mile round trip total. Great trips and got a lot of horn honking and thumbs up from folks on the road with my Divco projects on the trailer. Uh.... maybe they were honking and flipping me off to try to get me to get out of the way...

Minnesota to South Central Kansas for a 62 Ford galaxie convert project. Saw pics, asked DETAILED questions about the cars condition. The car was no where near the condition or completness described. I figured I drove all that way, I might as well bring it back anyway! Got the flu on the way home, so I spent the night on the floor of a motel bathroom while my buddy rested comfortable in his bed. Kept the car for about a year, and sold it for what I had into it.

BTW the guy that bought it tried to pick it up with a 2 wheel dolly, and it wasn't wide enough to fit the car.

Park River, ND from Cleveland, OH for a 29 Tudor. I actually paid for the car before I ever laid eyes on it, thanks to my wifes cousin who lived a out 30 miles from there. Great car, it will be on the road soon.

Anything under 10 hours is "local."

2352 miles in 3 days (17 hour driving days). Berthoud, CO to Shelbyville, KY for a 1928 Dodge Brothers. Looked it over and took it for 10 min. test drive, ran fine. Got it home and it turns out that after 15min. the engine overheats, and shortly thereafter the oil pressure dropped to near 0. 350 Engine block was cracked, TH350 trans had internals from a V6 motor setup, driveshaft was hacked and welded back together with no balancing. Anyway, many thousands of $$ later, I'm close to getting it to the condition I though I was buying it at. Moral of the story is drive anything you buy for HOURS and pay for the gas. If the seller won't let you, don't buy it, something is wrong with it.

6 hours from Maryland to bumfuck North Carolina to look at a BADLY misrepresented '50 Chevy Business coupe. Talked to the guy 3x on the phone and he assured me it was in beautiful shape. I knew i wasnt taking it before i even got out of the truck. The new white tuck and roll interior was new alright......before it sat on a dirt floor and exposed to the elements in a 3 sided shed for 10 years . The guy said to bring a magnet and that all metal work was just redone.....sure was and I probably couldve surfed the waves down the side. NEW PAINT....yup rolled it with rustoleum. It was junk. he wanted 3k....wasnt worth $300. Drove 6 hours back home with an empty trailer.

I dont go look at anything over 2.5 hours away anymore without detailed photos

Last summer I drove to Cocoa Beach, Florida to pick up a friends 54 Chevy. Left 8pm Friday night and was back home by 8pm Sunday night. That includes 5 hrs of using a ratchet strap in 104* heat to winch the car onto the trailer because the brakes froze up.1800+ miles round trip

I took BigO there for thanksgiving, were he found his Model A in a crack alley in the falls.Only problem was, we didn't have a truck to haul it back.Drove back the following weekend to pick it up.So, 22 hours round trip and 1500 miles round trip.We did this trip twice!!!! One for thanksgiving and one for the Model A!! And we were still talking at the end of the 2 trips!!

  23. 2700mi each way (Western PA to SF bay area in CA and back) to pick up a sure thing 1951 Plymouth 3 window business coupe. I knew the car was nice because I did most of the work on it about 15 years ago :-D. Hauled a car out for diesel money and got my ass burned (LOW estimate! LOL).

Went from Springfield Mo to Wheeling WV, after my Suburban broke down it only took 6 days to get home, oh yea, and was flat broke and my credit card maxed out by the time I got home. But I would do it again for the right car.

  28. I went Dayton, TN to a town about 75 miles northeast of Harrisburg, PA (800 miles oneway) for a 406 Ford engine and 4 speed a few years ago, then last year drove from Gulfport, MS to Dallas for my current `57...about 675 miles.....Yeah, 5 hours is local. Hell, I've gone 350 miles for parts cars, in the last couple years, probably 4 times or more. It's a sickness really.....

1200 miles one way...Hartville, Ohio to Sayer, Oklahoma to pick up my 50 Merc. Well worth the trip!! My battery died right on Rt. 66 outside OKC in my Durango. That was the only trouble I had minus 3 blown trailer tires. I would do it again at the drop of a hat!!
