Good at least you are asking before you buy it. Pretty smart for 16

Hey there young feller! Your gettin' some pretty good answers here. If it was a coupe with that V8 and a hydro us old gentlemen would be droolin' all over it. But hey it's a four door driver and that's not a bad thing. I would love to fart around with an old Olds again. One thing I wouldn't do is part it out. A money maker? I dunno. Fun to mess with? You bet. Just my opinion!

  4. There was a nice original, running, 4dr, torpedo back on the Portland Or. craigslist all summer that did not move at $6000. I looked at the ad several times over a couple months, looked like a nice very driveable car at what I thought a good price.

Of late I've moved a few cars. Nothing special but cheap in for the condition for the price asked. and i double my money on them by cleaning them up and putting them for sale in the right places. They were also cars only i knew about so there was no-one else driving up the price.

Tricks to buying and selling to profit-
    1. Getting them at a price you know you are sure you will get back. At worst break even and learn from it.
    2. Only buy a car you know will move on easily. If you have room to spare, storing it until it sells wont be a problem. Sometime the market for diff cars goes up or down. Be on the right end of the market and storing a car, doing zero too it can be very profitable.
    3. Don't be put of buy 4dr comments. Just keep it in mind its not as desirable/valuable. (In some parts of the world we only got the 4dr models. The truly desperate convert them to 2drs. Two less doors wont make it any faster!!!!)
    4. Dont forget to offer the car for sale world wide. Clubs are a great place to get price idea and they will also spread the word for free.
    5. Old cars will eventually always sell. They're not making anymore!

  7. DUDE, maybe you should take your own advice, he is asking for opinions on what the car is worth and how long it will take to sell, I provided an example of a very similar car that is actually available on the market right now as well as providing some insight as to how long it has been available.

Just great another Middleman, why not pass the word around, as such, and let someone buy it who will work on it.

You can loose money on free stuff. My number one rule is NEVER buy something you don't like looking at. Who wants to look at an ugly mistake untill the day it leaves.

Oh, and if you got a killer deal on something we can all be sure you'd pass up the chance to make a few buck and would just give it to someone else.

I once tried this,I bought a 54 Chevy for 250 bucks.I can't stand them.I thought it was worth at least twice that.It took me two years to unload it for 300 bucks.
Never buy something you don't like unless you have a buyer beforehand. Some people have a talent for it. Some don't.

You never make money when you sell a car, you make the money when you buy it!

It's tough and takes time to sell a car for more than the going price. You make your money on the buying end . If you buy for well under market price it should sell fast and you make your profit by selling at market price or just under.

  16. What are you currently running around town in? Can you sell your currently daily and make more money on that than you would on the Olds? Then make the Olds your daily driver and enjoy!

I agree. The best advertising for an old car is seeing it drive around town. It makes it a more viable investment for a lot more people who might be intimidated by a total rebuild.
