Yup, tried it on my 64. It drove scarry as hell. Bumpsteer like a mofo! If you want it low and want to keep the straight axle, dropped axle and monoleafs are the only way to go.
not on mine anyway. And also i used a 15 inch rim. Cut off the excess u-bolts so it doesn't drag and it still has a few inches with a flat on it.

I'll chime in. There's more than one way to skin a cat. I like it, and hope it drives as good as it looks.
