Technical How is it called and where can I buy it?

    I would look at truck cap parts I am sure they used a part like that on caps before the gas shocks came along.there is a company here called spanuer that has a huge catalog with a ton of automotive use parts.they have an online catalog if I still had my hard copy I would search for you.there are several names for them as some have listed.just because it is on a automotive does not mean that some did not repurpose it

    I used Volvo 780 struts on mine, and tossed the originals. The struts work great and assist in opening the doors. I had to use a single hole on body and doors, and the holes needed to be enlarged and tapped for 5/16NC to install the pivot balls for the strut to snap over. It was an easy rework, and I really like them. It lets me open the doors one handed when I have one arm occupied holding parts, or whatever.
