Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield , MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father - brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it up until his death last year.....at the age of 102 !!!

He was the oldest living owner of a car which was purchased new. He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death.

It has 170,000 miles on it, is said to still run like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years) ...That's approximately 2000 miles per year.

Bought this at age 19. Wanted an old rod since I was 10.

Back then no experience or tools or someone to help....this car had vicious death wobble. Nearly got in a bad crash when I lost the steering.

Broken dreams for a young guy.

Had it 27 years TOO LONG. Don't miss it.

  13. I bought my '77 Corvette new so I've had it for 33 yrs. I've owned my '40 Ford Coupe for 20 yrs. but I'm sure there are folks on here that have had their cars for longer than that. I don't think anyone is going to match Mr. Swift in the original post.

I bought my '72 Formula Firebird new, so 38 years!
Bought my '57 Pontiac in '84, so 26 years.
I tend to hang on to stuff, guess my wife is glad of that!
It runs in the family, bought our son a '66 Nova hardtop for his 16th birthday, that was over 20 years ago. Two weeks ago we fired up the 383" roller motor he put in last fall. OH BABY, is that a thumper!

To add to this thread to all those youngsters out there ....

And I know the seasoned guys here will 2nd this motion ... How many times have we heard the comment ... "I should never have sold her or yeah I let that one get away" ... A word from the wise, hang on to your stuff for as long as you can, because it hard to get a replacement back. If you love your ride, get a 2nd job to make ends meet, you'll be glad you did down the road. ;)

I bought my coupe for $100 when I was 17. That was 45 years ago (1965) and just finished it's 3rd restoration. Good to have it back.
