5220 produced in 55. The 265 v-8 and auto trans were options,if he has either one or both, its even more rare.

Like blacufo said 5220 Cameos in 1955 ( the most of any years production )

Really just a big back window 55 Chevrolet pickup with a set of fiberglass bed sides added by the factory.

Heres the one I had as a daily driver for many years. ( photo taken 1975 or so ). I am the taller man standing in front of the Cameo ... I had lots of dark hair back 35 years ago. ;)

There are only two rear end ratios available ... a 390 and a 4.10 :)
The 6 cylinder was produced in way larger numbers. Mine was a V8 truck with overdrive. I had a coupe of junker parts Cameo trucks ... back then. One was V8 and automatic. I crushed 3 of them for junk ... No one really appreciated them back then. PLUS I did not have a title for them

I love those trucks (not the '58's so much). I'm sorry to say I passed on a really nice one a few years back for $1500. I know..... Dumbass!

im with ya. they made the least amount in 58 but they are still the least desireable to me too.
id really like to have a 55-57 cameo but it just goes to show that the ''good stuff'' is always high priced.

wow, i didnt realize they were that rare! My uncle has had his 56 for about 20 years now. Its all original.

I can probably count the number of times Ive seen them in my whole life, on one hand. There used to be a 58 near my grandmothers house. Looks like those are the most rare.

  9. On this note, is there anyone making the bed pieces to make a stepside 55 into a cameo lookalike?

Clone parts are available now, but I didnt ask where. There may be more Cameo's on the road today than were ever made by GM.

The Cameo was discontinued in mid-'58 when the steel sided Fleetside truck was released.

:) I remember my 56 G.M.C. , not a cameo ,I had back in the 70s had the big back glass, deluxe chrome package, 4/speed hydramatic and pontiac engine. I believe the engine was about 316 cubes.

I just traded for one and trying to verify numbers and ensure it's an actual cameo and would like to see how it was optioned from the factory. Now it has a big block and automatic, but want to know if there is a site to run it's numbers.

The GMC versions are very rare. They were called Suburbans!

  19. .....You're probably correct, but I thought they were called Caballeros.

  22. Pretty sure the gmc version was called 'suburban carrier'.

And the gmc el camino was called the 'sprint'.
