I have been getting into my old econoline a lot the past few weeks.Today I realizesd I have had FIVE engine and trans combo's in it. Of course thats in 37 years. It had a 221 v/8 swap already when I got it in 1970.Then a 260, A 289, A 300 six, and the 302 it has now.
OK, this is a Vega. Not a trad type car, but I have had it for 27 years now. I have had a 270 GMC and a 302 GMC in it. Then a 460 out of a '69 Lincoln. Then a 455 Pontiac. Replaced with a 392 Chrysler. Now have a 363 inch Packard V8 in it. The Pontiac was fastest at 208.526 in '92. The roadster came with a SBC in it. I put in a 2000 Pinto, then a Lotus 907, then a '32 Plymouth with a '57 Ford head then a flathead '32 Plymouth. Currently it has no engine in it.
not in my time but my roadsters time that I know of.....olds, 426 wedge, 21 stud, B motor, blown ardun, 24 stud.
Did we Blow them up?, wear them out?Not fast enough? What made us change engines? I really don't recall what led to the swaps,I do know each engine gave it a different character.
Mmmmmmm, never kept a car long enough to have more than 2 engine swaps. Usually to go faster in my street racing days.
My have owned ol' Black and flamed 65 Ford truck for more than 35 years,,,and it had a 6 cyl three on the tree from the factory,,,,it has had 3 different 6 cyls,,,a 390,,,a 289,,a 351,,,and the last was a 302 and a 4 speed,,,,and that engine died about 10 years ago,,,, after I finish the wagon I'm gonna pull it outta the barn and get it back a**** the living,,, HRP
I've had my '41 Chevy coupe for 35 years now. It started out with a 283/3 speed from '72-'76. Then it got a 350/400 turbo in '77. Then it got a 4-71 blown .030 over 350 chevy in '79. In 2000 it got a 6-71 blown DeSoto Hemi. Of course getting bitten by the hemi bug insured the latest transplant!
I had a '64 Falcon that came with a 260 V8. That one broke the Oilpump drive first time I took it on the Highway, so I replaced it with another 260. After that I put a 302 in it, so the 260 went into a '63 Falcon that had a straight 6 in it when I bought it. When the 260 broke a piston, I replaced it with a 5 Bolt Bell 289. Then I bought a '66 Ranchero that came with a 255 V8 ( I think that was the size, it was one of those useless '80s TBird milage motors...) So I swapped the 302 out of the '64 into it, and sold the '64 without a Engine. After a while I put a rebuilt 351W into the Ranchero. Bought the '64 Falcon back, had big plans for it for a while, but gave up on it again. I put its old 302 back into it ( the one that was in the Ranchero), and sold it again. Couple of years later the Ranchero got tired, so I put the 351 and most of the Driveline into my '60 F100 ( that came with a 400M when I bought it...) Just replaced the 351W with a 327 and its almost ready to drive again. The 351W will go into a '73 Mercury Capri... The 63 Falcon had a Automatic when I bought it, then a 4speed O/D, then a T10 4speed, then a Toploader, then a T5 / 5speed, it now has a C4 auto. The '64 had a 3Speed, a 4Speed Toploader, and it ended up with a C4 as well. C4 in the Ranchero, and in the Truck. Truck has a Turbo 350 now. Mercury is a 4speed, but will get a T5.
My old 60 Bel-Air that i sold a few years back had a 235 six /castiron glide,a 350/350 and a 350 /4spd. in it all in the same month and it was never off the road for more than a day in between ...
265 SBC, followed by a 327 small bearing, followed by a 283, followed by a 350/375hp. The torque of the latest one won out.
I guess I don't change too often. Roadster just got its second 302 Ford after more than 23 years and a ton of miles. '41 pickup is still running the 327 (ahem) Chev it got when the 265 died in '76. The '40 coupe is on its fourth engine since I got it in '67; currently has a 351W, which replaced a 302, 390 FE, and flat motor that came before.
Years sgo when I had a 34 Ford: Orginal engine ran with 34 ******, put in a 53 flattie with 39 ****** which I knocked out right away and went back to the 34 ******, started smoking so went to a 51 flattie/34 ******, found a 48 Merc/34 ******, sold the car and bought it back ten years later, had no motor, put in a big block Ford with automatic. Then sold it again...dumb, dumb, dumb!
My first hot rod, a '31 A Pickup was started in 1959, with a Flattie, followed by a 303 Olds and then a 265 sbc, all in 4 years. They were all backed up by the same '35 Ford trans.
in the last 33 years my 1964 nova has had two 194ci 6cyls one with a powerglide one with a muncie wide ratio 4 speed , a hopped up 283ci muncie close ratio 4 speed , a warmed up 327ci 4 speed and 350 turbo ,and an even warmer 350 ci 350 turbo and a 307ci 350 turbo .... score so far =6 engines 4 different transmissions
My Dad's '33 had the original flattie, a hopped up flathead with McQuay-Norris copper cylinder heads, two different Wayne Chevys, a 283 SBC and finished with a flathead with Ferguson Ardun heads. As far as I can remember, DW
I've owned my 54 Chevy truck about 4-5 years and it's had 5 different engine/versions/combinations in it. I'm putting in a new one this winter... r
