Wow, some of you guys are really fortunate.

The only hand me down car I ever got was my mom's rusted out v6 77 Firebird that had a blown head gasket and needed the carb rebuilt. I remember how you could kick the fender and about half a pound of rust would fall out of the the gaping holes at the bottom of the body panels.

My grandfathers truck died on him to see my, mother and I when I was born. He got a ride to the closet car dealer which was Connell Chevrolet in Killen Tx,
and bought himself a new truck. 1969 chevy short fleetside,V8(307) with a 3 speed on the tree. It is not as pretty as when he had it but every time I get in it I think of him. He was the biggest A-hole I ever knew but I learned so much from him. When my dad and I aren't cussing about him we really miss him.

  7. I've got the '40 Fordor Sedan that my grandparents bought in '41. I've owned it for the last 36 years, first as a daily driver and then as a LONG term project. Got to get everything done to the A roadster so I can get back to the 40...

I WISH my dad kept one of his ride's from day's past.. I'd love to have one of his cars..
As far as the question asked..
No, i don't have an 'heirloom' car..but i bought my 57 chevy when i was 14 with lawn mowing money..and still have it at 31..olmost 32 next month.
I'll NEVER sell it, it was my first car, and one my dad helped me build..
If i have kids it'll be left to them..if not, i have a nephiew that'll get it..

Some thing's have no pricetag..sentimental value is one as dumb as it sound's.
I've been offered more money than it's worth in my oppinion already by a few local guy's..no sale.
So i may not have had one left to me, but i have one that will become one..

My father traded for the '36 back in 71, I grew up in that car, we even started a father son rebuild in the late 80's that got sidetracked. In 98 he found out he had ALS, he kept it from us until 2001. In 2000 he gave a bithrday card and in it he gave me the car. 2 years later he was gone...

It will be back on the road this year, and will NEVER be sold, it will be passed on the my sons.

My Dad bought this car in 1959. I drove it to high school in 1962.It stayed in my family until 1995 when it was sold. I was lucky enough to buy it back early last year.I wish my Dad was still alive to see it today.

I have a 58 DelRay that I have owned since '76 that will go to my son in a few years. And also I was give a 62 Rambler that belonged to a friend of the familys father that he had bought brand new in Florida, that unfortunately I sold because of not wanting to get any hassels from the town because of outdoor storage. Now I wish that I had it just for something different. And we now have my wifes grandfathers 30 Plymouth sedan that has been in storage in a barn since he took it off the road in 1956. And it still has the plates on it. The oil pan was taken off, so probably it ruined a bearing or two. We plan on starting on it this year. Tim

..........this truck belongs to HAMB lurker, "Soup." His grandfather bought it new. His Dad, Jerry, took it over for several years and then sold it to a buddy of his. Jerry bought it back and later, his son Chris ("Soup") took it over and still owns it......

Skate Fink..Soups truck was the first thing i thought of when i saw this thread..
He told me about it a few years back..
    VERY cool history..
My personal fav early chevy truck bare none!!

  15. I am in the middle of a frame off on my Grandfathers 1964 pickup.
He bought it new in 64, right after I was born, and died right after my first birthday.
I still has all the oil changes written on the visor.
I learned to drive in it, and it will now be better than new.
Not stock of course, I'll put my touch on it and will never sell Ole' Blue.

I can't wait to take it back to the small town I grew up in and make a pass down Main Street. Just like old times.

I have my dads 55 sunliner he bought new and it was his first and only new car,I dont think he would like what I am doing to it as I have updated the drivetrain with a 351-W C-4 maverick rear and dropped spindles in front but it can be put back if needed but not in my life time as I plan on running the wheels off of it when I get it done. My 37 chevy p/u was my great uncles farm truck that he bought back in the early 50s,he never paid over 50 dollars for a vehicle and would be spinning in his grave if he knew what I have in it now. I just got back from world of wheels....... It was an AWSOME ride home... Nothing like driving a roadster at night in mid January.... The weather was perfect! It really was.

This car is definately a member of the family.

The bond me and my dad have because of this car is unreplacable......

Some of my earliest memories are riding in it a boy, some of my best memories are driving it as a punk. haha

It really is a special car.

  18. The Lazy 8 was my dads when I was very young till I was in 1st grade. I have vivid memories of the car. My dad sold it to keep me from getting into cars. Didn't work as I now have that car back. I also have my first car, which was a '75 gremlin my parents bought new for my mom. I have been taking care of that car since I've been 10. I also have my grandfathers '69 vette. So I guess I have 3 heirloom cars in my collection. Yes, selling the Lazy 8 sort of backfired on the old man!

My Car was not in the family but might as well of been. My Grandpas good freind and his son ( My dads good freind) built it in the 50s.
My dad has his dads 40 ford pickup that had a olds motor in it in the 50s but was replaced with a early cad motor in the late 50s. and he also owns a 1938 ford that he bought in 1963. Both of these cars will be mine someday and then all three of them will be my sons.

My Deuce was aquired from the closest thing to a dad I ever had.I spent a lot of nights in my first youth sleeping on the running boards with my feet against the back fenders and my head rolled in between the fender and the hood(back when they were on it,and they will be again someday).LOL
Our deal is I pass it on to my youngin's if they want it for what it is,not for what it's worth.
If none of 'em want's it i'll give it to someone who deserves and would appreciate it but would never be able to afford one.Buuttt....will never ever sell it!

My 1929 Ford fordor sedan now my tub and my wife's 1961 Corvair both came from my Grandma. My grandpa had taken the Model A apart like thirty years ago to redo it but never got it finished. I sometimes wonder if he looks down on me with pride or in disgust for cutting it up. My grandma still has the 1960 Impala that her mom bought new in 1960.

I inherited my '37 Chevy coupe (pics in my signature) from my father when he died last year. He bought it in 1984 or 1985. I will NEVER sell it.

It was his daily driver for about 10 years, and it is just plain worn out. I just hope that I can bring it back to the condition it was in before his health started declining.

My wife's sister bought a '67 RS 327 Camaro in the early 70s from the original owner. My father-in-law still has it, and has had it completely restored. I don't think that one will ever leave the family. There is a pic of it in my photo gallery with the coupe at a show.

My Dad brought a 41 Ford Super Deluxe Tudor back 59. He gave it to me in 60 and we began restoring it and installing a hemi in it. We had it done it in 61 and
    I've had ever since.
My Uncle also gave me his 49 Ford tudor in 62 that I drag raced a lot at the old
Alton drag strip where I was breifly the 'N' stock record holder.

The 1936 Cord 810 armchair Beverly (think 4 seater) with a flatty/LaSalle 3 speed is the family hierloom. Acquiring parts still for an original exterior/interior look, but retaining the driveline (i.e., just found an original glass tail light lens). Once I stop being a full time volunteer of sorts for my folks, I'll begin to tear into it.Couple of pics in here:

I took possesion of my Grandfathers 37 Chevy coupe back in Nov. It sat in a chicken coup on an old piece of property from 1955 until I pursuaded him to pull it out in the late 80's. It sat a couple more years until he started tinkering with it one day. A new batt. and a jerry rigged coffee/gas can and he was tearing around his ranch, sans brakes.

That car has almost as many tales as he had, God rest him. It was his daily driver, as it were, when he worked the lumber camps in Yosemite. No paved highway back then:p . It has 350,00 mi. on it and is in remarkably good shape for a car that was rolled, repaired and rolled again in less than a week! G'pa used to have a lot of fun on Sat. nights!

Soon to be a Westergard-esque taildragger. I think he'll be proud.
