I worked on cars since I was 8 years old ( 50 years ago ) . But the 54 F100 I am working on now is my first ground up build. The chassis is done and now with HAMB help I am learning metal working.
I am now collecting parts for the next project an 38 Ford Pick up traditional fenderless rod. I will be building the frame from 2x4 tubing ect.

I've been working on my 73 Olds wagon as my first build for 4 years now and it's still not finished. Bought 3 other cars in the meantime, though... ;) I hope the wagon will hit the streets next spring. I always get a lot of help from friends. Here's the wagon:

  5. I'm a youngen so building a car that is 34 years older than me is interesting and a experience i'll never forget, i havent done much yet to it just taking the paint off. dont have much of a garage has a roof but got to do a little old old school and run an extension cord out of the house, so electricity is a problem for me and if it was my garage it would be different. ive been buying a shit load of new parts so i hope by spring or summer itll be ready just not completely done....46 Chevy Stylemaster

I'm working on my first build. Built several street stock type cars and the trailer to haul them. I found I had much more fun in the garage building them than racing them. Anyway I'm collecting parts for the pile that will become a hotrod some day....grouchy

My RPU is my first complete build from scratch. I have "restored" a bunch of muscle cars, and helped my buddy completely redocustomize his 56 Chevy... I have rebuilt engines, built a few race engines, replace alot of sheet metal, etc....

My 29 rpu has a frame built from scratch, 500 caddy mill, and home-made bed..... I am doing everything myself with the exception of getting some help setting up the front end.... I have been working on it 18 months and hopefully I will get it on the road this spring.....

When I ever I have a question or need inspiration, I just check on the HAMB..... I don't think I have ever had to post an actual question yet, I have always found everything I needed by using the search function!!!!

Originally I was going to customize a 69 Hearse, but after finding this place, I got the bug, sold the hearse, and bought my rpu body, cowl, and grill shell to get me started... currently I am finishing up the rear suspension and plumbing the brakes....

first timer here, building a 31 model A pick up. learning as i go, luckily i have a real good friend who has built a couple and helps me out whenever i need it. hes an oldtimer passing his knowledge on down to me, without him it would be a hell of alot harder. its always nice to have good friends to help you out.

  11. I can't say its a "build" more like replace the tired straight 8/hydro with the donor '70 pontiac V8/th350. But its still sitting in the corner of the shop waiting... waiting.... waiting

  13. I'm a first time builder as well. Had worked on cars with my dad for years, british stuff, but had never done any fabrication. Building a 37 Chev pickup but I'm on the lookout for a 49-51 Merc Coupe as my next project.

My first build too, the hamb is just about my only resource. Built everything myself, frame, 4 link, floor, etc. I just keep breaking it down to simple projects like frame, body on frame, suspension, roller, etc to keep it managable.

This is my 1st Hot Rod build as well. Been learning ALOT on it. Almost done!:D
Built plenty of motors, painted cars, rebuilt many individual components, but THIS is my first GROUND UP build. Sure is FUN.

Started collecting parts for the next one too! hahaha!
    It'll be a 60's style. Lotsa chrome!

my 31 coupe that im working on is my my first full build, it has taken alot of trial and error along the way but i have learned alot from my mistakes. its the only way i think i am able to learn anything. i had to deal with alot of sleepless nights and frustration the first time i took it around the block will be an experience that i will never forget, its hard to describe the sense of accomplishment i get when i get in my car and drive, the only only guys that have done it know what im talking about. all the blood and sweat that goes into these cars creates a sort of lifeforce, almost like a soul i guess. dammit now i have to go drive:D

Not my first build ever but my first pre '60's build. Took forever to find me a car like I was wanting but now I have nothing but time to play, now if money was the same we would be OK:)

My '31 is my first full on build. Ive had a few '50s cars and trucks but never fully "built" them like I am with the hot rod. Its taken me two years of learning along the way and hopefully in a few months it will be time for the first test fire and break in process around the block.

Working on finding my first time currently. Have a couple buddies and we decided we will just keep the beer flowing until the job is done.

Just bought my first project. A 30 model A coupe. I am truely a beginner and I am hoping you guys will help with all my newbie questions. This is a great resource!
Any Denver HAMBERS out there I can call on??

  30. I am a first time builder I got some parts ahead and got ahold of a old ratty Model A cowl and decided to use it as the first so as I screw up along the way I don't feel bad about wrecking a good body.

As far as learning I ask a bunch of questions on here. I have read everything I could get my hands on. To be honest it has not helped out that much other than understanding what RPU means. Stuff like that. I am sure I have messed something up on it but other than finish welding frame components I have done it all myself.

I have not taken any pics in a few weeks but now the cowl is back together the radiator was in it but its got to get cleaned, flushed and fixed, the roadster doors are mocked up suicide style. The bed will go on this weekend too for a test fit.
