Speaking of truckloads, I currently run them in 3 trucks. One, a 48 pickup, is my daily driver.

  9. I've been in love with the flathead since I was 15 when my Uncle gave me his 34 four door with a 59AB in it. I probably have a half dozen or so -- from full race motors to stockers. There are thousands of them out there waiting to be dug out of wrecked cars, sitting in barns/garages, etc.. Also, there are more parts available from a range of manufacturers than at any time other than the 50's and 60's. Easy to build, great to look at and a unique sound . . . get your hands on one and build a cool motor - you'll be glad you did!

The flathead(and not just the Ford bangers, sixes and V8s) has died many deaths but seems to always rise to the surface again in even more glory.

The only "problem" with flatheads is the expense/performance ratio.
They are simple, dependable, resistant to abuse, and just darn good-looking, especially all dressed up for a party!

And I have a fresh Motoreco Houston rebuilt 59A with 8BA valve train on an engine stand in the garage waiting for a project I'll probably never get around to doing. That and the fresh 250 Chevy six with 3 carbs, Clifford rocker box, await my attention.

  12. I can personally vouch for 34 of them as that's how many I have right now, in various stages of completion or dis-assembly :)

I have two.....a '51 Ford in my Deuce Coupe, and a '50 Merc on the stand awaiting a big buildup.....have all the parts but can't find an affordable and competent shop in South Jersey to do the machining work.....needs to be bored, valve job, bearings, etc.

There are many in cars and in garages under the bench. I have built over 300 in the past 4 years and am working on about 28 right now. They are the coolest motor around.

A flathead through straight pipes is heaven on earth. I have several "old guys" on my route to work that wait by thier fences every morning for me to pass by. They only started showing up after I began to rattle thier windows every morning around the same time. They always smile and give me the thumbs up, before going back inside. Going under bridges and overpasses is a treat for the ears too. Sure doesn't sound like a small block Chevy!

I have three but know of many more. They are really everywhere but usually suspect. My coupe runs a 239 with a bit of a cam while the '30 roadster I'm working on has a 255. Nothing sounds or feels like a flathead and damn are they pretty.

One thing about flatties is that they may not be instyle for the times ,but never completely out of style. Timeless.

I currently have 4 in drivers, 5 others that run, 9 rebuilders and about 15 boat anchors. They are still around and as far as I am concerned are one of the coolest engines ever made. As they say... Flatheads Forever

4 here that run and drive. A few others, lots of parts etc. I drove my '53 Customline Club Coupe to work today - last of the flatties. Nuttin' sounds like 'em. I drive down main street just to hear the sound against the walls and windows. Can't wait to drive home tonight. Tim :)
