Everyone wants steel but few of us can afford it. If you want the best glass body available, 32,33 fords BEAR FIBERGLASS in Prescott, Az. Less than 1 day prep time for paint. Fiberglass and composite construction. Give them a shout. Tell them Da34Guy's buddy sent ya.

  11. I built a 'glass 41 Willys, Gasser style. Tons of people asked if it was 'glass or steel. I said, if you have to ask, you're in no position to say a fucking word when i tell you it's 'glass. Now i'm building a 'glass Deuce. 60's Show/Drag, 'Flake, w/Tripower, mag fired 389 Pontiac/4-gear. PS-the car in my avatar is 'glass. Oh, and as far as "soul"? Hell, I put a bunch of that in every car i build

I'm "guilty" too, but as far as I'm concerned, there is nothing wrong with glass... sure, if i could find a steel deuce roadster for peanuts I'd take it over a glass car, but I won't put down someones ride based on what material the body is constructed from. I respect ALL nice hotrods, steel OR fiberglass. Groucho, Nick, and fuel pump, your deuces all simply look bad ass, just because they're not steel doesn't change that fact. As someone said, if people ask you if its steel or glass, then what difference does it really make? The only thing that really bothers me is when people refer to a car with a glass body as a "kit car".

  20. I've got both. '31 tudor cuz I just had to have some original steel, and my RPU. The truck started out as an abandoned project, a '34 phaeton 'glass body that was missing the lower firewall and trans tunnel. So I chopped it in half! Instant cab! I channeled it 4" using 1/8 in steel plate vertically and steel floor. Firewall is covered in steel now, too. Bed made from 14ga. It's cool, who cares.

As long as its done in a traditional style, free of billet, I'm into it.

I'm building a 'glass '32 roadster. It will be my 3rd '32 glass car built for myself. Have done two others for customers too. I'm no body man so steel cars cost to much when I get them to the paint and body man. Let me be the first to state There aint no good steel to be had(reasonably) around here! Normal Norman

I have a '31 Model A Tudoor. It was originally build by the Ford Motor Company. I have a Lakes Roadster. The body was built by Main Street Motors in 2001. It is not a '27 Ford Roadster Pickup body, it just looks like one. I like it a lot and it a blast to drive. But, I know what it is.

Ill take an owner built glass car with soul anyday over a steel, gold chain laden ride.

    Of course Im biased !!

I've been laying in the weeds on this one. I have a 32 tudor, steel car that I bought just blocks away from my old house. Actually worked a deal out and bought the guys house two years later. Love the car. It's not perfect. A lot dated at this time, Looks late 80's but I replaced the Truespoke wire wheels and put on steelies and caps.
This came about because I have IHRS frame number 1, and a Wescott Phaeton body in the barn. Will have a 324 or 371 Olds with either 4 x 2s or 2 x 4s with a 4 speed. This project started long before IHRS existed and DL was still working for GM. The drift here is, I now work 6 days 10 hours per day and drive 70 miles oneway to work, no time after dinner and dishes with the family. I hope to get this rig on the road someday but have a great headstart on the body because it's glass.
Seems a lot of the "traditional guys" sneer at the glass rides and it looks to me that they have more rules that the "show fellas". Just what they were rebelling against... Give it a rest and "have fun with cars". There's room for everybody.

your on a board about tradtional rods and your bashing traditionalist?
why do you call a fiberglass car that looks like something from....lets say 32..... a 32 ford? i guess its like fake boobs, they look like boobs. i like fake boobs. glass cars are fine. the only people wanting to justify them are the ones that own them.

I'm building my rod with an old moulding of a '38 Bantam coupe that someone cut in half and extended (badly) I had to build the whole support cage, bond it in, fill a 3'x4' hole in the roof, and build a cowl extension to look like the original one and give me some leg room. I'm doing up the fenders now ('34 Ford rears) and building the doors up. Glass ain't easy when you're building it yourself, I've wished several times I just had an original body as it would be easier than scratch building, but at least it won't look like everyone elses car.:D

I don't think I bashed anybody. It looks llike the posts above me are pretty much OK with glass cars. I have a steel car and nearly enough parts to do the glass one. My opinion was that I'd be run off this board if I even let anybody know I had a glass car. Looks like I'd be welcome in most places with either.
If you or anybody else thought I was bashing. I float out an apology. It was just an observation.

Just wondering. When is it fake? After a set of fenders are replaced, or the doors, cowl? What if they're replaced with Brookville, or Rod Bods parts. or The whole body in steel? Still a fake? How about a stack of parts from 5 different bodies to make one roadster body? Or does it just take a Gennie title? I'd have fun with any of the above.

    Grinn--Plastic boobs are OK too.
