The goodguys deal is coming to Charlotte in a couple weeks and I'm thinking of joining. (if for no other reason so my lazy ass can drive in instead of walk) Seriously, the only thing I've joined in years is the HAMB, is it money pissed away or not? Anybody coming to Charlotte?

If for nothing else, the Goodguys gazette is a really nice mag, thanks to Kirk!

  3. If you want to go the GG show, you have to be a member. Lots of HAMBers are members so they can get into the GG shows. This may turn into a bitching thread with people ragging on GG, but if you go the show and keep an open mind, you can find plenty of nice cars that appeal to your style preferences. Just walk past the others. You can have a good time if you follow the GG rules and have fun.

I am a GG member, we have lots of shows at the Pleasanton fairgrounds that is close by.

I have been a member for several years. The gazette used to be pretty good.

Now it is great! Kirk! is the editor and I think he does a great job. Even though my car still has not made the gazette. ;) hahaha

  5. I joined just so I could attend the Nashville Nats this summer.

It was the best "big" show I've ever been to. A lot of fun & a lot going on all weekend. Nice cars & nice people.

The Gazatte is just icing on the cake.

You DO NOT need to be a Goodguys member to attend a Goodguys show as a spectator or with a vehicle. You can get a discount on bringing your car to an event as a Goodguys member- and you will also recieve the Goodguys Gazette as part of your membership. Yeah, that magazine has totally turned around from the billet laiden piece of crap it was before KIRK! came around!

I will echo the sentiment of the great gazette. Think of your membership fee as a magazine subscription if it makes you feel better.

  8. Mine made an ant-sized appearance in the opening spread of the Nashville coverage. :p

Lots of good input already, so I'm gonna fill out the entry deal for Charlotte now and join up. I was wondering about posting this because of the possibilty of it turning into a bitch session about GG 'cause of the abundance of billet crap that attends these deals. Like 38 said, walk past it, right?

Just had the GG show here in Dallas.. and there was a good bit of cars that were worth looking at .. do a search for GG Picts .. and you will see pict .. I say it's worth it

  12. The "abundance" isn't as abundant as it once was.

Many GG shows attract some fine traditional stuff.

I just joined about 3 weeks ago and got my membership card but still no gazette. Is it monthly? Does anyone remember how long it took before receiving the first one? Thinking I should check on it, but trying to be patient.

  16. I'll echo the sentiments of others. The mag is very good. There is a monthly write-up called "bangin' the gears" by Roger Jetter that is great reading! His writing style reminds me a bit of Henry Gregor Felson. He tells great stories of growing up in the midwest and the tales always end with "at least that's the way I remember it!". GG-Charlotte is a good show that usually has some nice traditional rods....definitely worth attending!

I'm in it, too.... and my big draw has always been the variety at the shows. I also get a real big kick out of the racing action at Indy.

I have been a member a few times ... and went to Charlotte, Perry Ga. and Indy ...
It is a different deal than some events ...

I may rejoin this year to go to Charlotte ... if I do not go to the Moonshiner Reunion in Dawsonville Ga.
I have no SOUR GRAPES story ... cause I have been to 5 GG events and have made the winners circle 4 times. And had a photo of the roadster in the GG magazine twice ... :) ( photo below of the 32 in line to cross the stage for the winners awards on Sunday afternoon )

You need to be open minded ... and like diverse stuff ... and I am, as a general rule ... more focused on pre WWII cars. That's just me ... I do not care for all the Novas, Chevelles and Mustangs that seem to make up the majority of the entrants.

Meeting a bunch of Hambers is always cool & I want to meet Kirk ... so I may re-join and go

WOW! Thanks for the kind words about the Gazette. The whole team works hard to keep improving the look and content.

We are starting to drop the term JOIN in favor of SUBSCRIBE. Join sounds like a commitment where subscribe means you get something in return for your money. $30 is more than most other magazines but nobody has as much content at the Gazette. There is definitely something for everyone.

Suede & Chrome: The special areas don't all happen at all events. We WILL have a Suede & Chrome in Charlotte though. For 2007 Goodguys is looking to cut down on the special areas because they are a lot of work to get 20-30 cars in each. Some will go away completely but otheres will be combined. For instance Suede & Chrome will be combined with Homebuilt Heaven. It makes sense. Plus the show and special areas are what YOU make of them. If you and your buddies all park and hang out together, who cares where you park, you'll have a good time. Get it?

You know it's not like NSRA, you don't have to be a member to attend. Also, you don't have to attend to subscribe.

    Yeah ... I know ... :)
But I keep hearing how you have made the magazine a LOT better ... and I want to see for myself.

I did NOT bash the GG ... ;)
IF a fellow does not like it ( GG ) then he should just stay away and let the ones who want to go ... GO and have fun.

I hate that the Dawsonville Moonshiner Reunion and GG Charlotte usually fall on the same weekend. Cause then I have to decide which one to go to ... if they were different ... I could go to BOTH ... :D

I sure do miss the Deuce Area parking you guys used to put together ..

They will be at every event in 2007 to commemorate the 75th year of the '32.

It's well deserved. I used to hardly ever give the Gazette more than a glance unless I needed to find a vendor's address, but the work y'all do on it now actually has me reading it closely and I really appreciate the variety being chosen.

As for the parking thing... I personally don't care one way or the other about "special areas".... I'd rather just get in and get to lookin' and shootin' (pictures that is). 'Course once I sell my experiment in deviant behavior (the GTX), I won't be parking anything anywhere until I finish the Hudson or the '55. :(
